Beautiful Unrestored Frescos
Aug 2021
This church, which sits inside The Agora, has a simple but attractive exterior. The unrestored frescos inside add to its charm.

This and the Temple of Hephaestus are the best preserved ancient building in the Agora.

NICE EXTERIOR BUT INCREDIBLE INTERIOR
Sep 2019
This church looks quite ordinary for the outside but inside it is wonderful. It's very dark inside but that just adds to it's charm as it's laden with gold leaf on a majestic looking altar. Each side is adorned with lots of murals and the gold leaf chandeliers are exquisite.

BYZANTINE CHURCH
Dec 2019
This church, located close to the Stoa of Attalos dates from the very late 10th or early 11th century. When we visited on 12/16, it was closed and we were unable to enter. It is situated atop the Nymphaion from the 2nd century AD. It is the only surviving mediaeval monument standing in Athens.

Old church in an ancient surrounding
Aug 2019
You must purchase your access to Ancient Agora to reach this building.

Only a few building are still standing on the premise of the Ancient Agora. This one is one of them and you can also step in to look at the walls that was restored in 1956.

It is a small, distinctive 11th century church among larger structure on the site. However, today, you get a better idea of the cachet of this historical building due to the restoration work.

There are many beautiful churches in Athens, we can’t stop at each of them. While we were on the Ancient Agora site, we opted to look inside and we were not disappointed.

We took the combo ticket that allowed us to visit this site along others: Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Library, Temple of Olympian Zeus and Acropolis. If you already have your ticket, skip the line.

Ancient Church in Agora
Sep 2019
A 10th century church located in the Agora of Athens and built on an ancient Roman temple. Unfortunately, there are few icons left, but the visit is well worth it.

Old church in roman style
Mar 2019 • Friends
After you visit Stoa of Attalos, go down and you will see this small ancient church. It is build in roman style and is a perfect representation of most buildings of those period. Obviously, as it is related to christianity era, it is more "modern" than other buildings there.

Beautiful tiny Byzantine Church
Jun 2019 • Couples
Located in the Ancient Agora, this tiny church is a delight. Some of the lovely frescos have survived-and been somewhat restored

Quiet and peaceful, it is near the top of the Agora. Step inside and just feel the history. No seating inside, but lovely benches in the shade outside.
