We chose to do the Athens cycle tour on Day 4 of our 10 cruise around the Adriatic. We only had 7 hours in Athens, so we wanted to make the most of the trip and see as much as we could. Trip Advisor had already rated “Athens by Bike” very highly, so a few months before the cruise we... More

Manos and Costos were incredible guides. We visited in April and had the luxury of the tour to ourselves as the tourist season hadn't really started yet. The weather also was perfect, not hot at all. We loved the unique views of the Acropolis, Plaka, the Agora and other places that seemed to be accessible only from our little bike... More

My husband and I only had a few hours left in Athens following a holiday island hopping. Keen to make the most of our time, we booked a tour as we thought it would be an alternative way of seeing the city quickly. We were very impressed with Alex who was our personal guide. She was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and... More

Overall the tour was very pleasant. Christopher (guide) was very informative. The cycle was mainly through suburban Athens and it was a pity not to see more of the coast. A big plus to the tour was that it accepted solo travellers as other sites were requesting a minimal of 2 people booking on line.

My girlfriend and I rented 2 bikes and did our own tour of Athens in about 7 hours. We saw everything from the Acropolis to Kerameikos to Panathenaic stadium and everything inbetween, we even ventured up to Socrates prison! The guys at Athens by bike hooked us up with top quality bikes along with a lock/chain and a puncture repair... More

I'd highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting an informal fun tour of this lovely historic city. Our guide Dimitris was both informative and fun. The cycling was easy and there was no hassle with traffic at any stage. Value for money and just a slightly different perspective.

We spent a very enjoyable morning cycling through the secret streets of Athens with Dimitris who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly, just what you need when exploring a city for the first time. I would recommend this company to anyone wanting to explore Athens.

Great bike ride around the main sites of Athens. Alex was our leader and she was great and full of information about the city, sites and culture. Gave us all great recommendations of what to do, where to eat, etc. both here and elsewhere in Greece. A good way to start a visit to Athens as it gives you a... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
