Oh this was exactly what we needed after a couple of days of strenuous sight seeing. Imagine… sitting back within an intimate rooftop theater with the spectacular backdrop of the Acropolis… and letting this talented cast of actors perform a vibrant comedy composed by the brilliant MC who introduces the play. We loved it! It was funny, witty, educational and overall a joy to watch.

The location is wonderful as it is within the heart of the Plaka. You can have diner and cocktails beforehand as you make your way to the theater meandering amongst the many, many outdoor tavernas with live music. We recommend arriving 30 minutes before the show starts so to get a front seat and also enjoy watching the sunset from the roof terrace. You will be able to see how the view of the Acropolis transitions from daylight, to golden during sunset to simply shining like a full moon when it’s totally illuminated (we experienced this in late May when the sunset was at 8:40pm).

It was wonderful and memorable. We are grateful to the entire cast who made this happen. The entry ticket cost is very reasonable. You can buy it at the theater with a 20% discount if cash (€20/pp what a deal!)

I made some new friends today and I loved it! Witty, hilarious, a uniquely fresh approach to some of the most iconic characters of our culture. A labor of love and passion and a true testament to what modern Greek hospitality really means. Although clearly written and played in English with the foreign tourist in mind, it is a refreshingly enjoyable act for the Greek as well, with many of its parts acting as inside jokes for us Greeks who are (hopefully) more familiar with the characters and stories portrayed. I would not miss it if I were you.

Came in here on an impulse thanks to the lovely lady at the door suggesting it. An outdoor, rooftop theatre performance in the shadow of the Acropolis seemed too good to miss. It turned out to be a highlight of my trip to Athens.

It is an ingenious and inventive piece of theatre that manages to weave threads drawn from mythology and the writings of the ancients (Homer, Eurypides and others) into a thoroughly modern piece of theatre wonderfully performed by the four actors who manage to move from very funny to deeply moving - apparently seemlessly. I could wish that the referenced rule about the old and ugly having obligatory first dibs was currently enforceable.

As well as entertaining it was informative; a super introduction explained the construction and use of the masks and the way in which theatre was performed in ancient Greece.

A complementary glass of wine on top of everything else completed this excellent (and excellent value) experience!

I would like to start with the positives, of which there are many: the play is well thought out, the actors are having fun, the musical bits stay with you, and the introduction at the beginning gives you a clear roadmap to everything that will take place. The comedy bit is hilarious and there were a few heart wrenching scenes in the drama bit. However, there are a few negatives which unfortunately make this experience not as great as it could be. For one, the production value of the play is quite low in that you cannot always understand what is being said or sung because the microphones don’t all work properly. This is a bit of an issue for a play where spoken word is meant to convey an entire story and background. Moreover, there is a bit of an issue with the seating in that they are welcoming more people than the amount of people that could comfortably watch the show. The fact that the play is done in the open air is cool, except we are in a touristy neighborhood and some street singers can be heard at the same time the play is going on, which is distracting and does not help the audio issue I mentioned earlier. While I understand everyone raving about the view (it is great), I am a bit confused as to how the show we watched was worth 25€. I would not have paid more than 10/15€ for this, and I do not mean this as a diss to the actors or the play -they did a great job- but rather wish that some of the money had been invested in a sound expert’s advice and more thoughtful seating arrangements.

I would've expected something SIGNIFICANTLY better coming from the origin location of theatre. I cannot begin to describe how terrible this show is! Much of the humor is crude and thrown in for a cheap laugh. The (terrible) free wine is just a way to get people a bit more relaxed, so they'll laugh more. Not that it helped. This was not worth 25 euros, and I would've left in the middle, but I had friends with me. The show made me uncomfortable at times, and they would rapidly switch from something "funny" to an extremely morose scene with no indication of the transition. There is no real set for this show - Just mask/costume changes. People began packing their things and leaving halfway through the performance. I have a bachelors degree in theatre, and I was honestly horrified. The best thing about this performance is the view you get by looking over the edge of the roof. Anyone who doesn't know these Greek stories will have no clue what is happening. I've studied and read most of the scripts, and even I was confused. They jump between different stories, characters, and timelines with odd sound effects and unnecessary light changes. Additionally, the actors have clearly had no vocal training WHATSOEVER. Yes, this is a musical. Harmonies were weak/nonexistent, and all the notes were either flat or sharp. I cringed through most of the songs. I am extremely disappointed, and I wish I had asked for a refund. If you are looking for theatre in Athens, go see a play in Greek. Most likely, you will understand it better than this performance, even if you don't know the language.

This performance is a fake play.
The actors are very poor, shouting and singing al the time as it was a low quality musical.
Especially the second play about the women in power was extremely ridiculous. This is an insult to Greek history of the theatre.
Moreover, the price is 25 euros which is not accettabile considering the low quality of this performance.
Don’t be tricked by the marketing and all the advertisements they have done in the center of Athens.
If you want to see a nice view of the Parthenon, you have plenty of other options.

We watched the show with 3 children (7, 9 and 11 years old), and even though they don't speak english, they still loved the stories the characters and the humour of it. You can see the actors love what they do, and the stories and acting give a great feel for how traiditional greek theater was played. Plus, they were super nice friendly people, and the view from the rooftop open air theatre is gorgeous. This is absolutely the best way to spend an evening in Athens!

I think it is a very interesting production, where the rigor of traditional Greek theater and the freshness of modern theater are mixed. In one hour the play creates in the spectators the tragic catharsis in the passages of Medea and Antigona, maintaining the amusement of the comedies of Aristophanes. Really a job well done. Do not miss the opportunity to see an excellent play at the foot of the Acropolis!

Excellent and entertaining show. Friendly welcome. My 6 year old son started drama class and wanted to show him something different from the classic play. He really enjoyed the show and laughed on many occasions.
Thank you guys for this special evening!

The setting, the cast and performance were all perfect. Watching the sunset with the Acropolis as a back drop, the show was a filled with theatrical stories and knowledge about Ancient Greece. Lots of fun and 100% worth it!
