The area
Neighborhood: Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.

One of the best retreats ever
After more than ten years of retreats in Europe and beyond I found the week in Eftalou with Alexia one of my top experiences ever. Many yoga teachers claim to accommodate different levels, Alexia mastered this truely. The stunning location right on the beach invited long swims which complemented the yoga practice beautifully. The memory of seaweed on my yoga mat will stay with me. I left Eftalou feeling replenished and alive.

One of the best retreats ever
After ten years of yoga retreats in Europe and beyond, I would rate the week with Alexia in a stunning location on the island of Lesbos as one of my best yoga holidays ever. I left Eftalou feeling alive and aligned. Long swims in the sea and guided hikes complemented the yoga practice beautifully. Many yoga teachers try to accommodate different levels, Alexia achieves this with ease. I will remember the traces of seaweed on my yoga mat for a long time. Μπράβο!

    A complete experience
A week at the wonderful Eftalou in Mytilene with Alexia was a special experience. The group would meet for a two-hour Yoga Class of escalating difficulty that each member of the group could follow depending on their ability. In the afternoon we would meet again for a lesson or walk on beautiful routes and meditate at sunset. Alexia chooses special locations for her retreats, close to the sea and thermal springs, so that you can experience a complete and special internal and external journey.

    Unforgettable Retreat Experience
I recently attended a retreat at the hot springs of Aidipso with Alexia and it was truly a life-changing experience. From the moment I arrived, the serene atmosphere made me feel instantly at ease. The program was thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect balance between self-reflective and group activities. I left feeling rejuvenated and with a renewed sense of purpose. Highly recommended!

I am a new member of the online group that occured because of COVID. I am SO impressed. Alexia is a deeply committed to her art! One and a half hour flows unnoticed. My body feels great and my heart encouraged! Keep up the good work!

Alexia is an amazing yoga instructor based in the center of Athens. You can practice yoga with her either in the premises of her own studio or outdoors in the Athens national garden under the Acropolis. Even if you are for one day in Athens it is a fantastic opportunity for exercise and relaxation.

Alexia is a Yoga practitioner since at least 20 years. She has been introduced to Satyananda Yoga and has been travelling to India several times, meeting teachers from the Shivananda Center of Kerala. She considers the most exciting "school" is life itself and believes it is important to always be a student of life.

Arriving in the National Garden of Athens Park, we sat in lotus flower position, Alexia, from the center of the setting transmited concentration and serenity.

"Now we chant the omg sound"- she said after a brief breathing relaxing exercise.

We inhaled and we started singing the famous omg. Something incredible happens when you are next to 10 people and all sing at the same time the omg sound. A mysterious force leads you to modulate your voice along with the other people and contribute with all your best to produce the same frequency. The sound was then produce somewhere in the center of the space I realized that I passed through the threshold and I was entering in a new dimension.

During the class, we follow Alexia's instructions, movements and try to imitate her gracious and beautifull asanas.

Alexia was conducting the class in English with her soft and comforting voice, as I don't speak Greek (still).

A Yoga session with Alexia is composed of relaxation exercises, asanas, meditation, breathing exercise and final gratitude.
These elements, relaxation, meditation, streching and breathing have the same value in a Yoga session. Unlike other physical activities, where the main focus is in the "no pain no gain" statement, pushing the body beyond its limits, in Yoga, breathing is a gift that you offer yourself when you are coming from a strech pose which is then followed by a relaxation pose. So, my very first impression of my Yoga introduction is a kind of dance between strecthing, breathing and relaxation.

Automatically a talk with your body is established which boost your concentration and sweep away disturbing thoughs as "merde! I have to pay my taxes!"

So, in Yoga, breathing, stretching and meditation are part of the same body. Nevertheless, Yoga means in Sanscrit "Union".

At some point during the class, Alexia, advise us to "send your breathing to this part of your body which is suffering". "Send your breath" I mentally repeated it as I imagined sending an army of ambulances to my shoulders while I was stretching in the "Dog" position.

The class took 2 hours, but I would say it only took 5 minutes. Hearing Alexia's voice, a voice with two thousands years of history listening to my body make an unique life experience.

It was an extrordinary introduction to Yoga. Hope you are going to have the same experience.
