The area
Address
Neighborhood: Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighborhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.

When I finished visiting the History of Athens I went there to find out what it is. At my time of visiting Technopolis, a Jazz festival was going on. Good timing. There was also a Gas museum that could be visited.
The Cafe sold also cold bottled beers.
It is located near metro Kerameikos.
The archeological site of Kerameikos is also nearby.

It is an interesting sight, well restored and efficiently documented so you can simply go there and walk around, read the signs (has English) to understand what you see (and how this technological enterprise evolved, and was linked to the social/ economical changes in Greece. Plus the site, now, is real pretty and welcoming. Also has a nice cafe.
There was some mention of entrance fee, but we saw no open cashier, or any other collection procedure.

It's 10 minutes walking from Thissio metro station. It's free entrance but you can pay 1 euro for entering the buildings as a museum. If you are interesting in gas machines then it's interesting. There is the best play ground of Athens with a huge slide, only for children over 4 years old. My children had fantastic time there and didn't want to leave. There is also a small play ground at the entrance for smaller children. There is a small museum shop. The cafe looks nice but people smoke inside so it's was not possible for us to enter with children.

Technopolis is a former industrial area close to Athens center and easy accessible by the Metro in station Keramikos (line3).

This place and surroundings are full of life. Check out for the program of events. There are events for everyone, concerts of various types of music, shows and exhibitions, bazaars of artists, photography exhibitions etc. I love this place especially when it is full of people. Some of the events have free entrance especially flea type markets where you can find pieces of art, handmade jewelry or clothes in very good prices.

Few days ago there was an bazaar of vinyl records, last weekend I have been to a perfect exhibition with traditional food products from all over Greece. In every stand you could taste everything for free! Last summer I was there for a music festival and then for a book bazaar and a couple of artistic exhibitions and markets .

But again you have to check for the program if there is nothing that you are interest in you can just visit the museum. Few months ago was inaugurated an industrial museum that everyone can visit between 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. on summer and also have a guided tour to the exhibits. I have not seen it yet but I will go for sure in a “quiet” day so as to sit also to its marvelous café and relax. When place is not full of people I believe is best for amateur photographers, the spots are very beautiful.

The square around Technopolis is also a place full of young people strolling around. There are also a lot of restaurants and cafes.

The whole name of this area is Gazi Technopolis Manos Hatzidakis with eight of the buildings named after Greek poets. This hot spot has both past industrial architecture and modern facilities mixed together in a chic way. On the night time you can see this old gas factory from miles away because it is bathing in colorful lights. It is easy to access with taxi or metro (blue line: Kerameikos station).

The area bends to host various kinds of events: live music, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, seminars, fund raising events, sports, fashion happenings and market fares. There are some firms, a museum and a nice café inside the area. Usually happenings are for free or with cheap tickets.

Ghazi means gas, and this area of Athens was named thus because of the gas production plant in its center, established in 1896. It was always a downmarket area because of the pollution and the smell. The plant has now ceased production, and it has been tranformed to an industrial era monument, surrounded with a kind of park. Th area has been upgraded marketwise, but it still retains some of its wild nature, despite the many new fashionable restaurants and cafes around the underground station, frequented by young people mostly. A lot of exotic peddlers sell their oriental goods in the station square, and in the evenings you can happen on an occasional rock concert or something.

Learned about this place from a local at the hotel. The bars are plenty, music, food and street art. Would definitely watch you back, but like every city be careful. Getting there was cheaper to Uber than take public transportation but there is a stop right there. Plenty of rooftop bars and restaurants for all types but it does looks to screw toward the 20-30 crowd. That said there is a park there and earlier in the day saw people with kids. There is a restaurant you can eat in the air, yeah best to watch than to do, but is unique! Totally recommend this place over any other hang out touristy spot in Athens. You can have genuine fun on a budget.

if you are fed up with stones and ancient historymaye coming from the nearby Keramikos, then this place might be of interest, as it is dedicated to the younger history of the 20th century and the industrial area. located on the large area of a former gas distribution center, it reminds on times when things were operated with mechannic handles. At the moment of our visit, there was a bit and interesting exhibition on Greece in the 80s, the time of liberation or at least liberalization, when Greece went through its late '68 movement. An interesting place off the main tourist circuit and mainstream interest.

Some friends recommend us to go to Gazi for a walk, we took the metro from Syntagma and got off to Keramikos station, this area has 2 pedestrian streets full off coffee shops, bars and restaurants, looks like at the night must be busy.We tried this iced greek coffee which is very strong but seems not bad. After we visited this Tecnopolis to see what is look like, they told us that this used to be in 40s a gas factory supplying the city, inside is all renovated and there are art exhibitions.Thats is! Nothing special, if you are close and have nothing to do, try it.
