This contemporary art museum is dead as a door nail despite the website saying it is open.

I’m not sure if this the result of the Greek economy, but sad to see any cultural institution close. Especially a contemporary art gallery. One of my joys when visiting a new city is to see what their contemporary artists are up to.

We went over at 5pm on a Tuesday to find it shut because of high heat, don’t really understand as it is inside and air conditioned?? Then went back on the Wednesday at 12:30, and was told it would be shutting at 2pm due to high heat even thought it was 5 degrees cooler than the previous day!? Was told I could not enter an exhibition at 1:50? Even for the final ten minutes? Staff were generally rude and unhelpful (with the exception of the lady on the till who was nice). Seriously why spend so much money opening a gallery when they just shut it whenever, it was quiet anyway, if they keep running it like this it will get a lot quieter then quiet. DUMP.

Athens' Museum of Contemporary Art doesn't enjoy the PR of the city's major attractions (the Acropolis, Plaka neighborhood, etc.), and it definitely deserves to be better recognized.

The museum's permanent exhibit (as well as the temporary exhibits on display during our Oct 2020 visit) included some impressive pieces of todays hottest names, including Zanele Muholi, Rashid Johnson, and many more.

We were pleasantly surprised to find there Ilya Kabakov's massive installation "The Boat of my Life".

Though a bit off the beaten path, the museum is a short walking distance from the main tourist attractions and very close to Hadrian's Arch.

Highly recommended for contemporary art lovers.

Very good collection for those who appreciate contemporary art. A good reflection of the modern Greek psyche. I was surprised by the low star rating until you read the reviews; it’s true you do have to appreciate modern art to enjoy the space.

The museum is not worth a visit unless you want air conditioning during a hot day. Most of the “art” is crude and devoid of artistic talent. For example, one piece is a 30 foot piece of rope laid on the floor with neon light attached to it. Another is a wood fence that occupies an entire room. As the fence is just a fence without anything else I don’t see the point. I could look at the wood fence at my house and derive the same pleasure. Despite the museum having tons of wall space, most of it is empty.

unique, fluid, reopening, experiential, experimental, invigorating. the former brewery with it sheath is solidly established along different lines. recently reopened with new shows and allows several vistas to operate simultaneously. installs and transmogrifies, adequately curated and staffed. all of a sudden a modernistic stance is established in a town with centripetal archaeo-philia which is a double edged knife. from the Stylianidis architectural sheath concept to the functionality of the interior, which i remember with the gleaming stills back in the 60's.

This place is well worth a visit, very thought provoking. Great exhibits re immigration and climate change when we visited at end of July. Good air con, nice little cafe as well. We spent many hours there and would thoroughly recommend it. Beautiful building and amazing roof terrace with spectacular views of Acropolis. Not forgetting the friendly staff member who showed us the roof terrace.

Amazing work converting this old beer brewery into a contemporary art museum. So light and airy, with great views from the upper floors. Good mix of exhibits. Definitely gives you something to talk about with your travelling companion.

I really enjoyed my visit here! There was plenty to see, I really enjoyed the short film exhibit “Two Minutes Before Midnight”. There is also a beautiful rooftop view of the city. If you are tired of learning about ancient Greece and to learn more about Postmodern greek society, come here!
