It is a bit expensive for few minutes ride. We took one way to go up and come back on foot. It is not that high. You can easily do it on foot.

Opted for down trip for best views
Mar 2020
An exhilarating walk up in the splendid sunshine was ideal to appreciate the changing landscape. Spent about an hour at the summit.

Dazzling were the vistas in the brilliant clarity.

We looked forward to the funicular on the downward trip. With no queue and waiting only a few minutes we took front row seats. Rewarded with excellent panoramas during the short descent.

Fun ride to save your legs
Aug 2020 • Solo
I was a bit disappointed because I thought you would be able to get a view as the train moved up, but in the tunnel, they put on a fun light show to make up for it! Unfortunately the staff there was a bit unfriendly. I recommend getting the train up for the splendid views and then walking out. Remember your mask!

Lycabettus Hill Funicular
Jun 2019
An easier way to get to the top of the Lycabettus Hill with awesome views of Athens. To get to the funicular station from the Metro, you still need to walk two thirds of the hill (street sidewalk and stairs) and it is going to be a little steep. The funicular has a limited number of seats, so, allocate some time to wait for the next funicular. The ride is inside a tunnel, so you are not going to see the views until you get out of it on top of the mountain. But it is worth it, the views are magnificent!

What a great way to reach the top!
Feb 2020
I was surprised that the whole journey was in a tunnel (complete with ads on the walls is that why the windows are so big in the cars?) but when you got to the top, it's amazing! Reliable, quick service that allowed me to access the top, as I am not fit enough to manage the climb otherwise. We went as the sun was about to set and it was beautiful.

Superb views

The walk to the station is quite steep so definitely worth getting the funicular to the top. It's in a tunnel so no views as you go up but once at the top the views are superb

One way ticket is enough
Nov 2019
After reading other reviews I decided to get a one way ticket up and walk down. As I went in November the place was not that crowded.

The staff really want you to pay in cash for the ticket. At a push they will reluctantly accept credit card in the gift shop.

The taxi driver that drove me to the funicular railway entrance called it a 'cable car'.

Someone decided to put the railway in a tunnel rather than on the side of the hill. This means there are not views across the city from the cabin. Instead there's a light show projected onto the walls of the railway. The carriage that I was in appeared to have luggage racks as well as seats. I don't think the luggage racks are necessary because the cable car doesn't go to a hotel or an airport for that matter.

As you get near the top you notice a huge fried egg muriel which initially appears to be on a wall. When you get nearer you realise it's on the ceiling!

Fine and the only way up if you've already walked Ks.

The walk to the bottom of the funicular is up many stairs so I was happy to get the funicular up but wish I'd walked back but had already paid for a return ticket. €7.50 seems a bit expensive but I suppose it is 2 way. The ticket lady at the bottom is not so friendly as was the gentleman at the top. Not well signposted at either end and no one communicates when the next one will leave. I wish I'd read the post warning about the taxi drivers at the base as I too was charged €20 for a €10 job and not dropped at my hotel but a block down a hill with him siting "no parking at hotel." This is a little odd because where he dropped me also had no parking and they just stop on the curb and you jump out. It wasn't metered either which is when he lowered his price from €23 to €20.

BE CAREFUL OF TAXIS! Nice view at the top, funicular is disappointing
Nov 2019 • Family
You go up through a tunnel so don’t see any nature. It’s beautiful view at the top, manageable with a baby, we went up with our foldable pram which is light otherwise it would be a struggle.

Besides this, taxi drivers that wait outside fool people big time. Took a taxi down to plaka, not only they charged 15€ for a trip that was not more than €5 if was done via Uber. But also they didn’t take us to location we specified. Don’t get fooled like we did.

Take it to the top
Oct 2019
I would recommend taking the Funicular to the top of the hill but would recommend walking down. The Funicular ride lasts about 5mins and can be exceptionally crowded.
