We undertook the 2-day Jungle Trek led by our wonderful local guide. Mr Vanleang was very helpful in assisting us to book our trek via email prior to our arrival.
On the first day, he sent a tuk tuk to collect us from our accommodation in town and take us to a restaurant for breakfast and to meet with our guide. From there we caught a tuk tuk to the starting point. Both days of hiking were about 20km. The terrain was beautiful and varied along the journey, making every turn interesting and unique. The track is steep and slippery in parts, so moderate fitness is required. We stopped at several beautiful waterfalls and were invited to swim and cool-off (a welcome treat after climbing hills in the sun!). Lunch was cooked in a bamboo pipe, and was absolutely delicious! We requested to have vegetarian/vegan food and Mr Vanleang and his team were very accommodating. Our guide was very sweet and friendly. He picked cashews off trees and used flames to open them for us to try, as well as many other fruits found in the landscape along the way. He also fashioned us bamboo walking sticks and bamboo rice wine (‘happy water’) cups.
In the evening we slept in Putang Village at the homestay, where we had the pleasure of witnessing the running of the Volunteer School, set up by Mr Vanleang to tutor local children in foreign languages such as English and French to broaden their employment opportunities. The night we attended there were approximately 60 enthusiastic children who came to learn. It was an amazing experience. Overnight we slept in a traditional thatched hut. It was very comfortable and we slept well.
We want to thank our guide, Loun, and Mr Vanleang and his family for their kindness and hospitality. This was an incredible experience.

This is the most incredible experience in my journey until now. Even the weather was raining, our hearts were warm touched by people here. The most pure smile you can see here and the most real kind people you can see here. Everything bring me a lot and explore myself on the road of trekking. It is hard to sharing in words. Yes 55$ seemed too expensive to us in the first place but we have absolutely no regrets. We opted for the 2-day trek: pickup at 8.30 am at our lodge and dropped in the countryside with our local guide. About 15 km long trek in the forest, alternating dry and deeper forest areas, before reaching Puttang village by 5 pm. We spent the evening dining in our guide traditional house, eating bamboo and frog soup, delicious meal for which we had picked up some of the ingredients ourselves in the forest! Second day was even more intensive, Ã lot to climb up and down and 4 waterfalls worth seeing. WARNING though: it was incedibly hot and we ran out of water during the 1st day... So although water is included in the tour, take additional supply !!!!!

I spent a couple of days in Senmonorom and spent quite a lot of time at the Mountain Center Tour. I also booked a day tour to the waterfall, plantations and the mountains. I had a fantastic time. I can only recommend them. They are very friendly, care about the region, nature and the people and love their dogs. Mrs Vanleang's food is fantastic. Go and taste it!! Both speak very good English and whatever it is you need they will be happy to help. They are easy to find near Nature Lodge and hangout cafe. You can also rent motorbikes there , exchange books and get transport to other cities.

We booked the two day jungle trekking tour with homestay at the village. It was definitely an interesting experience we would not have wanted to miss during our time in Cambodia. The waterfalls were beautiful and the jungle trekking was a real adventure especially on the second day.
However, there are several reasons why we rate it only with three stars.
- the schedule mentioned online did not comply with the trekking. We saw two waterfalls on the first day and one on the second day. Moreover, the first day was quite a short hike ending around 3pm and the second day quite challenging ending around 6pm.
- both guides (1st day Nara and 2nd day Vin) did not speak proper English so it was hard to communicate with them. However, it was quite impressive how familiar they are with the jungle. It is really a pity they can not really share their knowledge.
- our guide Vin made a huge fire in order to prepare our lunch next to an idyllic waterfall. Instead of a bonfire he burned the whole forest next to the waterfall. There was smoke everywhere and the smell was horrible and annoying. Accordingly we could not really enjoy the delicious lunch he prepared. There was absolutely no need for such a big fire.
- on the first day after the hike we went to a mountain to celebrate Khmer new year with the guide's family which was an interesting cultural experience. After the mountain party they brought us to a volunteer school and left us there alone for a while without telling us what's going on. Apparently they expected us to teach some children at this school. We did not know anything about it beforehand. At least we could figure out where we are staying overnight by asking around the village. Well, the reason for this was probably that everybody was pretty drunk due to the new year celebrations and we had a really good time with the village people later that evening.

It was rain on our first day of 2-day jungle trekking and the forest was wet and cold. We were quite scared but our tour guide Mr. Winh who is a Burong farmer took care of us so well by holding our hands to cross every dangerous and difficult river, up and down.
It's not easy for short-legged us to trek such a long-distance trail in (rain)forest and we spent 9 hours to finish it but the kindness and pureness of Mr.Winh just lightened our scare and tiredness. He danced, sang, fished, cut the bamboo to walking sticks and showed us the animals in forest. He's a lovely man with many talents.
Thanks Mr. Winh and his family. I will never forget the cuteness of his sons and the simple but delicious meal cooked by his daughter.
Before we left the village, Mr.Vanleang introduced the village, including the volunteer school to us. He built the school by himself using the revenue of his small trekking and restaurant business, to provide foreign language education to the village children. He also supports the village by providing job opportunities to the Burong people, for example, let them guide the trekking tours.
We are more than grateful to have such a once in a lifetime experience with all the lovely people we met in this 2-day-trekking tour. Hope that more people can come and experience the most local journey or take a chance to be a volunteer teacher.

Mr Vanleang has created a superb tour that gave us a real insight into what life in the jungle is like. We hiked through green fields and thick jungle forest on the first morning before arriving at a waterfall. We ate lunch and swam before hiking again in search of monkeys! Along the way we saw beautiful butterflies, giant ants and all kinds of jungle flowers and fungi. We picked mushrooms and collected plants for dinner. Mr Vanleang and his brother are obviously experts and have an incredible sending direction. They showed us how to cook vegetables in bamboo, catch fish using bugs we collected from the rocks in the waterfall and carve bamboo glasses and cutlery for us to use. We slept in hammocks under tarpaulin in the middle of the forest! We hiked to more waterfalls on the 2nd day and met the local people and their children who live in the middle of the jungle and sow their own rice, papaya, pineapples, chillies etc.
This was definitely an experience of a lifetime! Our guides were extremely friendly and willing to answer all of our questions and share their knowledge of the jungle. I highly recommend this tour. Mr Vanleang has set up an incredible business and uses the profits to improve both the school he has built for the community and the lives of the local people living in the jungle.

We had à full day with mr vanleang and his team, he guided us through his small community , explaining us their school project and the importance of the elephants for the whole community. They are extremely respected and considered as full part of the community thus very well treated. He also told us how critical is the small extra revenue from tourism to support the community projets. Besides the great experience with elephants and the trek in this marvelous jungle it is a true contact with a small Bunong community. No doubt this is the only project run by Bunong people for Bunong people.

When I was here 5 years ago, a man named Mony Hong led hikes with overnight stays in the jungle. Do you lead similar activities?
