Parking, chairs, umbrellas, cabanas, local vendors, food, drinks—everything for a great day on a fantastic beach. A must see!

It's worth 20 mins of your time to walk around to this beach, as it's quieter than Jolly, but the water is just as cloudy. The southern end is quietest but watch out for idiot jet-skiers.

Wow what a stunning beach! The water is calm and a beautiful turquoise colour. Plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas available to rent, the people are friendly, polite and helpful. The beach didn’t get overly busy compared to other beaches we’ve visited. It’s got a peaceful,...More

We were really lucky to have this beach close to our resort. It was practically deserted when we visited and must be one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua. Well worth a visit.

Beach is nice but bring water shoes sand and shells very hard on feet. It is not great for kids because the sand drops quickly to about 5 feet reasonable priced chairs ($5) and $10 for umbrellas, They say free Wi-fi but it is mostly...More

Valley church bay was the surprise of the day. Hapiness is the only word to describe our feelings when we saw this fabtastic beach. Sand full of corals..turquoise waters was like being in a painting. The water is getting quickly very deep and inside the...More

There is a quick drop off so beware. The water is not too rough and it’s easy to manage considering the drop off.

Cab ? - from dockyard to Shirley Heights to Valley Ch beach? (3 Replies)
Arriving on a cruise (only ship in port in June that day). Plan on doing bus17 to Nelson's Dockyard. I already know I have to take a taxi to go to Valley Church Beach. We are a family of 4. My question is: would a cab drive us to Shirley Heights so we can take a few photo ops and then take us to VCB? Approximately how much would it cost for the cab to do this? Is going to Shirley Heights after Nelson's Dockyard out of the way? Thanks for any input!

Forget Valley Church! It's hugely overrated, and there are two lovely beaches (Galleon and Pigeon) very close to Dockyard, which would make your day much easier to manage. Entrance to Dockyard includes entrance to Shirley Heights, and you can either take a taxi up, or hike if you're reasonably fit If you really want to go to Valley Church (along with half the rest of your ship who have read the over hyped reviews from other cruisers) you can get a bus there from St Johns - a #22 - but...More

Jolly Beach Resort bars (0 Replies)
Hi, can anyone tell me about what time the bar closes at JBR? My fiance and I are night owls, I know there are bars close by but just wondering about the resort. Also, does anyone know how far of a walk it is to get to Valley Church Beach? Any suggestions on the best rooms? Near the pool and close to the beach? Thanks!

One Day In Antigua (3 Replies)
We will be taking a cruise in January and want to spend a day at one of Antigua's beautiful beaches. We can't make up our minds between Valley Church Beach or Darkwood. We want to get a little further away from the crowded beaches around the cruise port, but want to make sure we can get back to the ship on time. Can anyone tell me how long a taxi ride would be to either of these beaches and the approximate fare. Does anyone have any preference between these 2 beaches. Would appreciate any...More

Hello Again I have another question regarding Darkwood Beach. Is there much shade there? A couple of the reviews I read mentioned there were only very few umbrellas. Are there any trees for shade? I love the sun but can't sit in it all day.
