Definately worth a visit
Sep 2019
A lovely collection of glass art, including stained glass, decorative arts and glass sculptures. We were particularly fortunate to visit when there was a temporary exhibition of glass items with the animal motif - great work by the museum to bring together so many pieces from all over Europe and beyond!

Another new show at the Musée de Verre in Conches - our Glass Museum
Mar 2015 • Couples
The show that we are currently featuring is a review of the glass works of art done by one of François Décorchemont's grand-children, Etienne Leperlier, who passed away unexpectedly last year.
You can see how his work changed over the years, and then visit the permanent collection in the other part of the museum.
A great place to spend a bit of time - not really for kids though - if the weather is not behaving itself in Normandy!

Nice place and nice style - paying one ticket for one of the little museums of town, you can enter here also. i expected labs or live-showing, which didn't happen. but still - nice visit. nice one-piece glass composition, beautiful colours and i guess you appreciate if you are in this glass passion!
little hard to find, maybe.

Stunning
Jun 2014 • Couples
Visited this museum on a Wednesday afternoon in mid June. Even though I had been given a leaflet by the Conches tourist office, have visited the town a couple of times already in the last few days so gad got my bearings a bit, can speak/understand French well, this museum is not the easiest to find. We got there at our 3rd attempt and then after asking someone (we were actually just round the corner and had passed it!). It's just near the "gendarmerie " and fire station so if you're travelling by car, follow those signs and you'll end up near.
Having got the moaning out of the way, our visit was well worth it.
There is currently (until about November 2014 I believe) an exhibition of stained glass by Gabriel Loire. The works are beautifully and tastefully displayed to good effect. The colours of the glass are very vibrant. There is a TV screen and you can use headphones for the commentary which is in French. This wasn't a problem for me but my husband couldn't benefit much. (The receptionist knew we were English as she spoke English to us but nothing was said about translations for the commentary.) There were then some items like vases in display cases, some of which were by a local artist. They were stunning if you appreciate glassware. Some postcards are on sale at 1euro each of some of glass items.
The museum is open afternoons from Wednesday to Sunday in season and costs 3euros each with concession for young people/ children. A visit lasts about half to three quarters of an hour or so. There is a small car park at the museum but if it is full, it shouldn't be such a problem to park round and about. I didn't notice any disabled parking spaces.
We enjoyed the visit and were glad we had persisted in trying to find the museum.

New show at the Musée de Verre
Jun 2013 • Family
This is one of the very few Glass Museums in France and definately worth a visit. Right now the special show is "Legras" but the permanent collection is also open.

Very good mid size glass museum 1 hour from Paris
May 2011
We have visited the Musee du Verre twice - the first time in May 2010 for the exhibition of dalle de verre works by the late Henri Guérin, and most recently in May 2011 to see the retrospective exhibition, 'Isabelle Monod - 35 ans de verre'. Whilst we were most impressed by the Guérin exhibition (because we particularly enjoy the dalle de verre technique), both exhibitions have been well presented and documented (explanations have been provided in French only).

Apart from the temporary exhibition space, there is a small permanent collection which focusses on the unique pâte de verre windows created by François Decorchemont (1880-1971), the celebrated glass maker. In addition to the Decorchemont works, the permanent collection includes works by the late Claude Monod, Etienne and Antoine Leperlier (the grandsons of François Decorchemont), Yann Zoritchak, and a small number of others.

The Museum has a small collection of books for sale (relating principally to its perament and temporary exhibitions) and a small collection of material relating to other glass museums, galleries etc. If you are a glass worker or particularly interested in glass, you can easily spend several hours in the Museum.

The Museum, which was established in 1996, is open from Wednesday to Sunday (2.00 pm to 6.00 pm) from March until November. In May 2011, the admission fee was 3 Euros. At the time of our visits in 2010 and 2011, the Museum manager was a very helpful young woman who speaks some English.
