Amazing boat- I didn't find info on the boat while in Vila do Conde but i am interested to look into to find out about these amazing people that explored the world in these small boats!

If you’re a Navy buff or a history buff you’re gonna want to look at this. This community had a long history of shipbuilding. They built a replica of a sailing ship and you do not want to miss it. If you get a chance to look around, I strongly recommend you go See it.

Centuries ago it was a renown shipbuilding town and this is a remarkable replica of one such ship.

Used to export salt to, and import pepper and spices from, the East, exhibits include figures of the crew, navigational implements and all important maps.

Many months were spent on these pioneering voyages and it gives a vivid picture of the hardships of the cramped life on board over such a long duration.

For 1 Euro well worth a visit and get an experience of how small these ships were. It’s a replica rather than original but you still get a good feel for the ships of yesterday. The entrance fee includes a small museum but the area is not that inspiring and most of the narrative is Portuguese (May be reflects the bulk of the visitors)

Visiting the exhibits in the Custom House museum and the replica ship are definitely worthwhile. It shows how Spartan and frugal conditions must have been for crew and passengers. The smallness of the ship combined with its height must have made it very vulnerable in storms and our conditions. A leaflet in English would be very welcome as the guide on the ship had limited English and I have limited Portuguese. The potential of this replica has not yet been fully exploited - more could be made of the harsh conditions and the perilous nature of travel on the seas and oceans. A great exhibit and highly recommended.

Here you can see one, real size! Looks small, doesn't it?
Sometimes you can even visit it inside; check the museum in front for tickets and timetable.

It's fascinating to wander about the entire vessel and see how little space is available for supplies, crew and officers, According to the naval person overseeing visitors, the crew complement was 120 !

It's a very nice place to visit with children. It's close to a beautiful promenade, where you can rest at the end of the afternoon.

Beautiful replic of a Portuguese Carrack, interesting visit, a must if you are passing near by! And then you can have dinner close by in one of the local restaurants.
