We visited the Viana do Castelo Costume Museum with the children and were delighted with the experience! The exhibits are fascinating and well presented, providing a journey back in time through the history of the region. The children loved learning about local culture and traditions while exploring the museum. Definitely an unmissable visit for families wanting to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of Viana do Castelo.

A wonderful small museum founded by a local public servant. An excellent introduction to cultural dress from the region and how the fabrics were made. For the 2 euro entry fee you cannot afford not to miss it!

This day we visited this museum. It's a well equipped museum, very interesting to learn about the earlier years of Madeira.
It's closet on Monday.
The tickets are € 3,00.
This time no pictures from me!

When visiting this museaum you learn a lot about clothing and the living in former times in Portugal. Some rules regarding the colours of clothing are internationally relevant, was my impression. We spent 1 hour there and enjoyed every minute.

Easy access because it is located in the historical center of the city, the popular Praça da República. Installed in a building that was the delegation in this city of the Bank of Portugal.
It is an austere building that houses this museum dedicated to Vianian ethnography - and particularly the traditional costume (traje)
The collection is in 3 floors, 4th floor is Temporary Exhibitions.
Free access on Saturdays.
Gift shop.

Beautiful, very interesting collection of traditional clothing worn for festivals, courting, farming, fishing and seaweed harvesting. The embroidery work is stunning. In a beautiful building in Praca da Republica.

This is a lovely, well designed museum. Signage is in various languages, including English. There are three floors, as well as a vault with gold jewelry on -1 level. It is worth seeing. Your ticket admits you to another museum which is about a 15 min. walk away.

If you are ever fortunate to make it to Viana do Castelo, Portugal for the "Romaria de Senhora da Agonia"- One of the Greatest and Unique Festivals of the World and the most important one in Portugal- (a mixture of folklore, music, color, clothes, tradition, religion, and "GOLD"), once a year, in August- a visit to the "Museo do Traje" will be the complement, providing you with the amazing history of it.
If you just happen to make it to Viana, at any other time, a visit to this "Museo" will make you to come back to Viana at the time of "Romaria" in August.

Surprisingly interesting even for us gentlemen, this well organized museum has some fascinating items, such as the various costumes worn by portuguese women over the centuries and a very clear explanation how wool is turned to cloth from the sheep’s body.,
