Still into the historic center of Valença we do hve the “Igreja de Santo Estevao”, a religious architecture, and neoclassical influence, who is built in the thirteenth century. A “Romanesque” temple with neoclassical reconstruction. It was the seat of the former 15th century Gothic-Mudejar episcopal collegiate, as well as the Bishopric of Ceuta. From those times it is possible to appreciate the bispal chair, in Gothic-mudejar style, as well as the chairs and paintings of the life of St. Stephen. The temple still preserves the only picture in Portugal of the Virgin breastfeeding the boy who escaped the Inquisition.

We visited this church while doing a day tour out of Porto with "Living Tours". The interior is nice enough to recommend a brief visit. The wooden ceiling is beautiful.

Church that appears to have begun in 1283, although it has many things from later styles.
Near Mercy.
