Usually this is the spot to finish the evening or take a ferry ride through the river. Start here if you are going towards the cellars or exploring the old town.

From Douro Valley where the carefully farmed vines grow on fine terraces to the means of early barrel transport, the Douro River has more than played its part in the fine history of Port Wine, the Oporto & Douro region as well as Portugal as a whole. It is well worth making the effort by boat (in the summer) or... More

We were lucky enough to snag a beautiful sunny day for a cruise on the Rio Douro. Very enjoyable cruise on a picturesque river. Loved all the cafes fronting the river too

Starts in Oporto, lovely city. Scenery along the river is awesome. I had expected it to be endless vines, but it is much more varied. Dinner at a monastery has a spectacular view. There is inevitably a port wine tasting, and a full day tour of Salamanca, also other shorter visits to places of interest. My advice would be to go... More

the river is amazing for separating Porto in two and you can see two different views from each side. it doesn't matter from which side you are as you can have a sit and relax by the river.

Having lunch or dinner in front of the Rio Douro is amazing. You must go and visit a bodega and walk across the Rio Douro.

There are some companies that offer the boat trip through the Douro River, a kind of mini cruise, it's simply amazing.

By navigating the river you'll be able to experience the urban of the city of Porto and Gaia, but also the nature and UNESCO classified heritage. The vineyards and "quintas" are also something unique. Don't forget that the view is best served with a good Porto wine.

We couldn't resist the idea of a brief cruise along the Douro from the Atlantic (almost) and back, past a few modern bridges. The river is very nice but the trip highlighted the difficult plight of Porto and Gaia. The graffiti covered walls and crumbling buildings that line the riverside disguise the charm of the towns and their lovely, winding... More

I booked a day tour with Living Tours, Portugal. The trip is really amazing, I gained lots of knowledge on the history of Portugal, the Douro valley and also the wine making and its aging process. The tour guide, Yoric Kviche, is really friendly and also knowledgeable with regards to the history of Portugal. I will definitely recommend this trip!
