There are plenty of options to take a trip on the Douro - ranging from day long lunch and port-tasting ones to the simpler Six Bridges one (50 minutes, currently €12.50). Be aware that sitting outside on a breezy day and sailing against the tide can lead to some seats getting sprayed with water. As we found out! Commentary in... More

Few words needed to describe our recent river cruise on Douro Princess - AWFUL, AWFUL. The ship is tired and needs scrapping, cramped accommodation with no natural ventilation and problems with air con not working properly and smells of diesel/cabbage. Torn carpets and threadbare towels, meals adequate but not catering for vegetarians, staff excellent in the main, they are struggling... More

One of the most scenic rivers in the world with beautiful river banks accompanied nature in its different seasons. Very peacefull yet filled with the birds singing. On the boat trip you pass a few small villages adjacent to the water, appearing now and again as you go down the river. A fabulous experience to do alone, with friends or... More

Train from Porto to Regua has great scenery as it hugs the bank of the Douro but not until you are quite close to Regua. Misleading from travel books and tourist blurb. The first hour and a half is through green country.

We cruised along Portugal’s Duoro River of Gold on the Viking Osfrid, after spending a couple of nights in Lisbon. Information: briefings and Viking Daily excellent Organisation: excellent with one serious exception (see below). Weather: not good for sitting on deck. Entertainment: some very good. Trips: varied and a little tiring, the two best to Salamanca, in Spain, and lunch... More

We experienced the Douro up close in Porto and on it in the wine country.. It is definitely the centre of trade and activity (including some daring river jumping by youngsters in Porto).. Colour and movement and bustling trade in an unceasing cavalcade of river craft.

It was a beautiful tour. And the food was okay. The staff was not always so accommodating. All in all its a nice trip and the landscape makes it absolutely worth it.

The 6 Bridges tout by boat on the Douro is extremely popular with tourists and one feels one can't NOT do it. However it is very commercialized with taped commentary which no-one can hear. The views are spectacular though.

Amazing views and mostly amazing cold port wine!! If you can cross the bridge to the other side where there are warehouses. Behind of the them is one that does wine tasting and it is amazing! You can get free vouchers when you buy a ride at the teleférico !
