The Douro winds up from Oporto to the Spanish border, through a valley covered with vines and wine/ port making plantations. It is extremely picturesque, though the river itself can be wild. You can get boats and cruise ships from Oporto, or travel along the railway, including a few steam trains. If you have access to a car you can... More

Travel by boat up the river under the iconic bridges and go as far as the wonderful country side showing the vineyards that produce the grapes for the port houses in Oporto. You can do this in a 3/4 hour cruise which can book riverside at the many boat / cruise companies. Oporto looks wonderful from the river slowly meandering... More

The Rio Douro is beautiful. Take a short river cruise and see Porto from the water. It's a slow moving and relaxing pace. A nice thing to do if you're in the area.

Enjoyed the 6 bridges boat trip on a sunny autumn day. departing every 30 mins from alternate quays this is a very worthwhile excursion. If possible book it as a joint package with the open top bus tour ( yellow) which makes it cheaper. Good earphone gide in several languages outlines Porto's historic past.

A busy river with plenty boat trips to see the various attractions on it's banks. The old Rabelais on the river give an indication of its past history in the transportation of Port. From the Ponte de Dom Luis 1 bridge you get excellent views of the river.

Great visit to Porto and the river Douro. Impressive bridges across, as well as cable car down the side of it. Little ferry also can be used to cross. Plenty of boat trips available up and down. Nice just to walk along bank taking in scenery or sit to have refreshments at side of it in any of the many... More
