Interesting historic park on many different levels connected by steps. It's divided into many smaller areas so you occasionally come across courting couple or people sleeping which can feel a bit awkward. Some interesting trees including a huge, old Ginkgo. Views across the river. Entrances from the top on R d A de Alburqueque and also from bottom of ramp beneath Passegio de Virtudes

This park is a hidden gem! If you go to the Passeio das Virtudes you’ll get one of the best sunsets in Porto! The park will be crowded with young people, playing guitar, loads of dogs, such an incredible atmosphere! Strongly recommend it!

This amazing park was a highlight of our stay in Porto - strange that it was not even listed here. If you're even a little into parks/gardens/landscape architecture, don't miss it by any means. We stumbled upon it by sheer chance when walking back from disappointing Jardim do Palacio de Cristal. The "Garden of Virtues" is laid out in narrow terraces clinging to a very steep slope, so unless you feel like climbing better start from the Hospital de Santo Antonio and zigzag down the terraces towards the river. The garden contains a number of rare and impressive trees including an enormous over 200-year-old ginkgo - by far the largest I have ever seen and I have seen a few. There are also walls, fountains, pools, portals, pieces of appropriate modern sculpture and other features. From every point in the garden you get incredible views. The only thing that I would eradicate from the views is the huge ugly looming modern building of Palacio de Justicia :)

It took us a while (and a few visits) to find an entrance to the garden. If kept clean, this would certainly be a nice place, worth a visit.
I would recommend to go to the upper part (a bit separately from the main part), where you have a nice overview of the larger part and where (so they say) you can have a nice view of the sunset.

This is not about the gardens for me, but rather the locals place to go for a beer and the sunset. (Hint: go to the pointy part of the garden on a map.)
Grab a beer from the restaurants behind (not where the line up is, there is another place three doors down that had no line up and beer was one euro), and take a seat for a stunning sunset over Porto.
Enjoy!

The jardim das Virtudes is the best hidden gem in Porto. An unknown fantastic garden even for the majoity of locals. Here you can enjoy the nature in a very well treated garden with some rare species of plants and unusually high and old Gingko Biloba, nice paths, fountains, statues and wonderfull views over Douro river . And the best, it has few persons, So, if you want to do a picnic, this is the place.

This is a secret place in Porto. Not all the tourists know this place and probably this is a good thing. This is a relaxing garden that give you the possibility to enjoy a wonderful path and amazing views. It's a place just for connoisseurs... but I love to bring my friends to walk in this garden and see them always happy and enchanted for place that is magical.

Good place to relax and see the sunset while drinking a beer. Alternative place for young people. Lots of students and young tourists.

It was quite difficult to find the entrance but well worth it, probably about 10 people in the park total in the middle of the day.
Very old park you can see it in historical paintings of Porto, the terraced structure is pretty unique.

Jardim das Virtudes is one of the most beautiful spots in Porto, a bit outside the tourist path, Go there to see the beautiful sunset over the Douro.
