We had an amazing evening learning to cook with Rui. My friend and I found out about the cooking class by accident when we found a brochure while looking around the shop. We had small group of 6 people and we were taught to make Portuguese food using traditional ingredients. It tasted amazing and taught us lots of handy hints to take home. It defiantly a highlight of our trip to Porto.

It was nice to walk through this sweet store and come into the kitchen. Take a brake from the heat and the traffic outside. We learned to make three course Portuguese dinner/lunch. It was all very tasty but my favorite was the desert: Pastel de nata. I met friendly people and would definitely recommend this workshop to a friend traveling to Porto.
I hope to learn Portuguese quickly so I will be able to join the other workshops in my next visit.

Here is an amazing way to discover the Portuguese cuisine. You will learn good recipes that you'll be able to cook yourself when you'll be back in your country ! Bacalhau and pasteis de nata will not have anymore secret for you.

We had a very pleasant evening cooking and tasting good Portuguese wines and Porto.
The chef speaks very well English and is easy to understand even for frenchies like us.

Good thing to know, if a certain number of persons is interested they can plan a workshop if the chef is available...so don't hesitate to call them or write them an email.
Definitely worth it !!!!!

from now on, We will try to find experiences like that every time we travel.

Was frankly disappointed as you don’t really make Pastel, you watch someone make them who describes the steps as she goes. You do get a very good idea of the difficulty of the process but there was perhaps 10 minutes of actual hands on during the two hours, which was shaping the pastry which each person did individually. All else was by the chef. The Pastels made were quite delicious. This was more like watching a cooking show than actual baking.

Three of us arrived at our hostel a few doors up and were simply in the search of food when we walked past the pop up shop. After having a little look around at the cool and quirky things they had, we noticed a small kitchen at the back of the building and were intrigued as to why.

There wasn't much convincing needed, we were sold when the friendly girl in the shop mentioned "traditional Portuguese cooking class... inclusive of free wine".
We were unable to make it to the one that night, however they happily organised a private class for the following evening, something incredibly reflective of the people of Portugal.
We made traditional entree, main, dessert, drank both red and white Portuguese wine and finished off the night with a few glasses of port from Porto.
It was one of the most memorable evenings of our trip thus far, and the food was impeccable, furthermore, all made by us. Sourced locally, all organic and very healthy (if you don't scoff down 4 of the custard tarts).
Rui was the best teacher, who made sure WE were the ones cooking not him, even after we insisted his skills far surpassed ours, and we sat and chatted for hours.
For 3 young travellers, we learnt so much and can not wait to get home and cook the recipes for our families. You would be crazy not to sign up, it really is such a fun night, much better than going to a restaurant, and if two 20 year olds boys can do it, anyone can!

Rui "the chef" was a lot of fun and made the whole experience wonderful. We all got to be part of the chopping and messing about while we learned how to cook up a delicious lunch. It was easy to find and it made our stay in Porto even more fun. If you like to cook, learn new recipes and enjoy being with others while you create, this is for you. Both my cousin and I enjoyed it immensely.

We found this whilst wandering around the back streets. We liked the range of crafts which were reasonably priced.

This place is a hidden gem. It is close to Liberty Square and yet easy to miss. The store has several little stores or booths inside with beautiful items and I shopped for quite some time before and after our class.

The class was a dream with Rui (chef). He was patient and funny. He had humor and was delightful from beginning to end. Everything we cooked was tasty and made with fresh, local ingredients. I even liked the salted cod once it was cooked. Ending with Port and desert we had an amazing time.

As this was a double birthday event for a friend and me, we were a group of eight in a private class. The owner of the shop went so far as to find a local baker for birthday cakes that another friend of ours bought. They were amazing as well. I would go here again and again to learn more about local and blended cuisine. Highly recommend.

Oh, did I mention it was reasonably priced as well? BONUS!
