When we visited the Casa da Música and Mercado do Bom Sucesso, we explore another part of the city. This square has a imposing historical monument about the war against Napoleon on 19th Century, but the best part was enjoy the atmosphere of autumn.

While visiting the Casa da Música, we took the opportunity to walk to the Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista, just steps away. Our attention was initially drawn to the grand statue in this beautifully planted area, and though in the middle of a rather large roundabout, it felt serene, once we had crossed the busy Av da Boavista on a sunny Monday morning in September. I am not sure if there are seasonal plantings in the Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista, but about all that we observed were just lovely green plantings – not many flowers.
The grass was well-manicured, and though traffic was around us (fairly light for a Monday, but then there was a taxi driver strike, which had just started), we felt miles removed from the bustling city.
The 150' monument, in the garden’s center, is a tribute to the aid from England, during the Peninsular War, against the forces of Napoleon. It towers above all else in this little garden.
Soon enough, we had to move on in our sightseeing quest. I would allocate 30-45 mins, to visit the Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista

The statue in the very centre of Rotundra Boavista depicts the Napoleonic Wars when Portugal overcome their foes.
The Portuguese Lion is shown Crushing the French Eagle.
Totally Awesome and a must see.👀

This soaring obelisk dominates the Praca Mouzinho de Albuquerque roundabout, commonly known as Rotunda da Boavista, which serves also as a suburban park, complete with a kids' fun-fair (when we visited). The monument is a magnificent commemoration of the defeat of the French by Portuguese forces in the Peninsular War - 1808 / 1814. It is crowned by dramatic statuary depicting the Portuguese lion subduing the French eagle... Well worth the metro ride to the adjacent Casa Musica in order to see this artifact.

What a great place to chill in the afternoon or evening. Plenty of benches and it has a beautiful monument to 1809 liberation of Porto from the French.
