This is probably the most beautiful square in Porto. Beautiful, but not lively, despite the proximity of Sao Bento Station. There is something to photograph here, but it still does not give rise to the desire to stay. The dominant feature of the square is, of course, the majestic Town Hall, built in 1920. The blue logo of PORTO in front of the Town Hall is always popular with tourists who get to the Town Hall itself. It's important to take a selfie. What if you forget what city it is? The pool in front of the Town Hall is somewhat surprising. This is not a typical technique for Portuguese architecture. Even more strange is the presence of a fountain in front of the pool. This is the fountain of youth Menina nua, which means "Naked girl". Beautiful modernist buildings of the early 19th century are located on both sides of the elongated square. Numerous cafes and shops were located in these Art Deco buildings before. However, they could not compete for the first floors of buildings with banks and insurance companies. Solidity has become more, but life has become less. The cherry on the cake with which the visual perspective of the Libertade Square begins is a pedestal with an equestrian statue of King Pedro IV .What remains a mystery to me is the credit to Portugal of Pedro number four? He fled with his father, King Joao from Portugal from the troops of Napoleon, was the initiator of the separation of Brazil, becoming its emperor. What did he do to be in charge of Porto's main square? It is interesting that the French, not the Portuguese sculptor created this monument... However, the square in the style of French neoclassicism, led by the dominant monument, is gradually being destroyed. In addition to the naked girl hanging her legs from the pedestal and the PORTO logo, there is a strange sculpture of Abundância Os Meninos, a stylization of the antiquity "O Porto", the statue of Almeida Garett and the Newspaper Vendor Statue at the very end of the square. For all tastes.....

Praca da Liberdade is located in the very heart of Porto. It is Porto’s main square. The creation of this square dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. In the middle of the Square is a 10-meter bronze equestrian statue of King Pedro IV from 1862. At one end of Liberdade Square is Porto’s main artery, Avenida dos Aliados. It is flanked by modernist buildings from the beginning of the twentieth century, the Town Hall and some of the city’s banks, numerous cafes and shops. The square is large enough for a pleasant walk or to sit back and relax on one of the benches.

The Metro construction did indeed damage the perspective of this city center square, but it is grand with the City Hall at one end and a big statue in the middle. Major streets pass through it. Lots of big banks around and some big cafes. Very historic.

The Liberty square is one of Porto's main squares right in the city center. It occupies a huge block beneath the imposing City Hall towering at the northern end.
During our second visit to this great city this June it was under heavy subway construction, but its beauty is still visible and I remember it from our previous visit 9 y ago.

This is the most important square as well as a city showroom and a famous meeting point for locals. The square is surrounded by the grandiose avenue; Avenida dos Aliados and by tall highly-decorated granite buildings (mostly hotels and banks). To the north is the stately town hall with its tall tower and to the south is the equestrian statue of King Pedro IV. A nice feature of this square is also the beautiful modernist facade of McDonald's that is worth seeing.

Imposing square in Porto where the town hall is located and where there are several buildings that are truly spectacular architectural works. It is also the place where several tours in the city begin and where the Porto sign is to take a photo. At the moment the subway is under construction so mobilization was a little difficult

We started our walking tour here the first day and ended up here in the evening the second. Beautiful square and all the wonderful Buildings surrounding it.
Only negitive is that they are doing major renovations around the statue at the far end so it was impossible to take in the entire 4-5 blocks from end to end.
We liked it better at night lite up. Go often.

All the main tourist attractions are a short walk from here. The train station and cathedral on one side, city hall at the far end, tower and Lello bookstore nearby. Also a close walk to the river and bridge walk

You will probably find yourself in this square while staying in Porto. It is surrounded by many gorgeous buildings and contains some great statues.
Most of the walking tours start in this square so you can find out a bit more about the history of it. We really enjoyed walking about and taking in all the sights here.

It is a big square located in the middle of the city. The square itself does not have anything interesting but the buildings around it are impressive. The square is the best spot to check architectural design of the buildings around it.
