Walked west alongside the river from Vila Nova de Gaia. Read on Google that there were lifts to the top of the bride and pedestrians can walk across. This is out of date. The lifts are no more and the top level of the bridge is closed to pedestrians. You can book to "climb" over the arch. Instead, we walked further on to take the taxi boat across the river. Costs 2 euros and is fun!

Ponte da Arrabida is an impressive bridge. When it was constructed it was the largest concrete arch bridge in the world! Anywhere you look at this bridge from, it is quite huge! Unfortunately we could not walk across the bridge, but we took a good look at it and it looks more majestic from a distance. This bridge is the one closest to the mouth of the Douro River, which makes it extra special. Worth a look!

My husband and I decided to walk along the Douro, towards the ocean. From the Ribeiro, it was roughly 2 miles to this bridge. It was a fabulous walk along the river. As we approached, the sun was setting right behind the bridge. What a fabulous sight!

It was just so incredibly gorgeous that I had to grab this shot. This certainly is not the most famous bridge in Porto, but this night, at this instant, it was certainly the most beautiful!

It’s a bridge, and that’s all it is. Not really special or overwhelmingly beautiful. When it was finished it gots a lot of attention because people thought it wasn’t strong enough for the weight of the traffic. But it’s still standing. With Porto Bridge Climb you can climb the bridge.

We crossed this bridge a couple of times by public service bus during our holiday vacation, as we were staying at a hotel on the other side of the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. We also viewed the bridge from many different points on both sides of the river, as well as walking underneath it. Arrabida Bridge spans the River Douro, and is the bridge closest to the mouth of the river. The archway bridge, of reinforced concrete, and with an asphalt deck, opened to traffic in 1963.
One thing we were amazed by is the sheer height of the bridges which span the River Douro.

This is something that is well worth doing when you are in Porto. It's very safe and well run. The guides are really friendly and very good if you're nervous as my wife was, she loved it ! Fantastic photo opportunity up and down the river

The Arrabida Bridge or “Ponte de Arrabida” is the bridge over the Douro River and who is the second bridge to made possible the connection in between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, and so still one of the six bridges who are built in the city of Porto, the bridges are namely Ponte de Maria Pia, Ponte Luiz I, the Ponte da Arrábida, Ponte de São João, Ponte do Freixo and the Ponte do Infante. The bridge has been opened to traffic in 1963. The bridge has also 4 elevators this to bring the people who are walking on the river bank to the other side of the river by crossing the bridge, the height is about 70 meters. In the year 2013 the bridge got classified as a “National Monument”.

Another bridge that connects Porto with Vila Nova De Gaia crossing the Duoro River. We saw it when taking the 6 bridges river cruise. It is a single span arch bridge.

This is one of the big bridges that you will see on your hour cruise on the river. The view from down below is awe inspiring. An engineering marvel.
