We found this liquor store while visiting Porto in March '19 using the Trip Advisor app and am so grateful for the positive reviews which led us there. When we were there, we purchased a Taylor's 30yr Tawny Port, partly due to name recognition and having visited the bodega the day before, which included a tasting, along with a 375ml bottle of DR 30yr Tawny Port at the recommendation of one of the store associates (we weren't sure if we would like it-bad move). After returning home to Fl to taste and compare the two brands, we could've kicked ourselves for not having taken the recommendation of the associate because the DR Tawny Port has become our favorite! Fast forward to our return trip, November 2022. On our first full day in Porto we made a beeline to the store and the same associate was still there and found out his name is George! We were able to figure out his name because the first time we were there we took a photo and he happened to be in it! We admitted to him we had been skeptical of his advice the first time around but this time we were all in! He was so helpful and spent a LOT of time with us explaining tastes, notes, everything. We ended up choosing two different brands of Tawny Ports, 3-30yr, 3-20yr (we don't normally like 20yr TP's but this one is surprisingly very smooth and lingers with nice, almost buttery, nutty notes) and a '97 Colheita Port, single vineyard, bottled in 2022 and finally a smaller bottle of the DR 30yr TP to enjoy the remainder of our trip.
I highly recommend visiting the store if you want help with finding a great wine from someone who doesn't get a commission from a Port house or winery and just enjoys helping customers.

You're in Porto. You'd like to buy some good port to take home and enjoy. You want some information and guidance for your purchase, without the bias of a production house or the "take your cash quickly and move you along" tourist merchants.
I did what you're doing now. I checked Trip Advisor, 'discovered' Garrafeira do Carmo and decided upon a visit.
Entering this gem of a store I felt like a kid in a sweet shop. Shelves stocked with bottles of enticement; some known, others not but where to start?
Jorge was engaged with two customers and Antonio was mongering some whole salted cod for another (the store also sells a selection of nuts and sardines).
A young assistant asked if I knew what I wanted or if I required assistance and whether I had tasted port wines before. I replied that I was looking to buy a selection of bottles, that I enjoy sharing port with friends back home and that I would like assistance in choosing a selection of unfamiliar names rather than go with those I knew.
I was politely asked if I could wait for either Jorge or Antonio to be free to assist.
Now this I liked. Other customers were not being rushed so I knew that I wouldn't be either. Nor was I being pushed for a quick sale by the assistant.
I stood back, admired the displays and watched Antonio cutting the salted cod.
Then came my turn.
Antonio asked me several questions to assist in offering selections and, when he had to quickly move his van to release a blocked vehicle, handed me an opened bottle and glass to sample.
Half an hour with Antonio and I had chosen 8 bottles of different type, style and producers from the selections he recommended.
Whilst packing my purchase, another sample was proferred together with guidance for drinking and storage.
This was waiting with style.
Overall, there is a great selection here (someone had wrote there wasn't? Maybe they expected a museum?).
The knowledge and customer service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable.
One final mention of parking. Don't drive around for an hour in the adjacent streets hoping a space will appear. There is a nearby Saba parking lot with a stepped entrance to the street outside.

An excellent friendly wine store. Prices are very reasonable and much lower than buying directly from vineyards. Jorge spent 20 minutes with me helping me select 6 bottles to carry back with me. Additionally, let me try samples of port wine, which I also added to the purchase. As others have pointed out shipping wines to the US is expensive, but given price for quality of Portuguese wines, it may still be worth it.

We visited their shop and we talked to Jorge. He was super helpful and kind and we finished with a super selection of wines. the express post service was extremely fast. I highly recommend you to visit this ship if you are a wine lover , and you want to find wines from smaller and less commercial wineries, nice Portos, etc

We went there to buy an inexpensive bottle of Port and were extremely well received by all of the staff, especially Antonio who gave us an entire lesson on Port Wine varieties as well as great recommendations according to our budget. He also offered us three different wines to taste so we could get a better idea of what we were looking for. The prices are truly better than any other place in town, so this place is a must if you want to buy Port wine or any wine really. He even showed us the best route to take for our road trip along the Douro river, which was extremely helpful! Would rate 6 stars if possible.

We found this port shop following other reviews a few years ago and it was absolutely amazing. This was then a must do on our latest visit. Jorge has a fantastic knowledge of Portuguese wines and port In particularly, he is completely fluent in English. We bought wines during our stay, he made some great recommendations for us to bring home. As we have drunk them all during lockdown we went online to order more to be delivered to the UK. It was fantastically easy. Jorge dispatched them the next day and they were here within the week. We will be using this service again... and again. If you are in Porto we strongly reccomend a visit. If you love port wine these are the people t speak to.

The staff are very passionate about quality and value for money. We were well advised on two visits and we look forward to going back again soon to get more products. We had no enthusiasm for a sole-house port tasting across the river with all it's attendant hype so we asked them to put together a little sampling kit for our own home enjoyment. 2 whites, 2 tawnies and 2 rubys from their surprisingly vast collection of miniatures was their suggestion. Voila! 6 to sample of different ages and types as a good starter. All for 10 Euros. We'll be back.

Amazing welcome, introduction to port types and tastings. from a very knowledgable not at all pushy new friend Jorge. He shares his passion for his wine and country. the deals he gave us were incredible and appreciated. The care that was taken packing the package we received was amazing. Must do this instead of a cellar tour. more educational and higher quality.

Went here for a look and left with couple of bottles. First day we bought few small little sample bottles after the recommedation of an owner.
After trying those we came back for "big Guns". Luckily our friend recommended us this place to go to.
Will be coming back next time and as promised we will bring a couple of bottles from our place.
Greetings from Slovenia!!

The staff at this place will organise shipping outside of Portugal. They are very open and clear about the taxes and postage charges.
