Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference...

Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference in the city's history. Clérigos Tower opened its doors in 1763, becoming the highest bell tower of Portugal, with over 75 metres. In 1753 the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni was invited to design and build this magnificent Heritage, considered National Monument since 1910. The famous church was built in the eighteenth century, between 1732 and 1749 and this was the most emblematic work of the architect Nicolau Nasoni. Is one of the most beautiful temples of baroque feature, and a reference in the history of Porto. The Exhibitions allow to discover the history of the Brotherhood of Clérigos, admire pieces from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century, in painting, furniture, jewellery and vestment collections. Christus collection, on the 3 floor, is a trip through time and space where art and religion complement each other.

Amazing view

The fantastic view over Porto is worth the rather narrow and steep climb. Try to go early as queues build up from noon onwards.

Good views of the city from this tower but not for those who do not like tight spaces or do not like waiting for people to take turns in passing on the stairs.

i like climbing towers, and this was a good tower to climb in. the church connected to the tower was interesting to see as well. it was especially nice that tourists have access to the side balconies - so we could see the ceiling paintings and decorations up close.

Clérigos church tower was the tallest structure in Portugal when completed in 1763, and as the main feature of the city's skyline, ships used it as a guide when coming into Cais da Ribeira. It's a remarkable baroque landmark designed by the Italian architect Nasoni, who also designed the adjoining church. Be carefully to reach the top (76 meters up... More

We took a hop on hop off bus tour to get highlights and knew this was a stop, worth going up there to see the views and the tower is beautiful, we could not walk the stairs but it is still worth a visit in our opinion.

I didn't climb the tower but I am sure it must offer unparalleled views of Porto as it is a tower on one of the highest hills. The church itself is lovely and the situation of this church makes it a landmark and focal point in the city.

To get one of the best views over the city the climb up the narrow staircase is really worth it. Also included is entrance to the religious art museum.

Please choose the moment basis your preferences on wind and sun position (e.g. sunrise and sunset), opening hours and especially people affluence. The last flight of steps are significantly narrow and the top balcony despite the good view (the tower is not that high actually) is narrow so two people hardly pass if moving in opposite directions. Buy it is... More

Fantastic views over Porto from the top of the tower. Not too streenious to climp the tower, but don't go in rush hours if you don't like very crowded/unorganised places. I think they let in too many people to avoid long lines.

For 3 Euros to get to the top, it's well worth the climb. Views from above are just amazing. You can also get your bearings from there if you're new to Porto.
