Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference...

Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference in the city's history. Clérigos Tower opened its doors in 1763, becoming the highest bell tower of Portugal, with over 75 metres. In 1753 the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni was invited to design and build this magnificent Heritage, considered National Monument since 1910. The famous church was built in the eighteenth century, between 1732 and 1749 and this was the most emblematic work of the architect Nicolau Nasoni. Is one of the most beautiful temples of baroque feature, and a reference in the history of Porto. The Exhibitions allow to discover the history of the Brotherhood of Clérigos, admire pieces from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century, in painting, furniture, jewellery and vestment collections. Christus collection, on the 3 floor, is a trip through time and space where art and religion complement each other.

The view from the top of the tower was quite nice. However there is very little space up there. Going up and down the stairs is complex because only one person can pass. This is especially difficult for somewhat bigger people....

Just do it. The views are worth the terror and the church is amazing. The steps aren't too narrow except nearing the top and two way traffic here can be a little difficult

When you reach the top of the tower you can see all the Porto from above from all the sides. One minus is that there are not so many space on the top.

Don't let the number of steps scare you away, it was not that bad. The walk up the tower may be uncomfortable if you are truly claustrophobic. The attraction is crowded but the views are great and the small museum of religious artifacts on the way up is interesting.

Get your walking shoes on and get ready to climb! The steps are worth it as the views are spectacular at the top.

+Well worth a visit - the church is interesting and very ornate while the tower gives some splendid views. You also get access to the upper level of the church so you can look down on it.

to reach it you have to climb up.. to go further you have to go down.. and this is Porto, where climbing starts with getting down..
