Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference...

Clérigos Tower is the foremost undisputed landmark of Porto and a reference in the city's history. Clérigos Tower opened its doors in 1763, becoming the highest bell tower of Portugal, with over 75 metres. In 1753 the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni was invited to design and build this magnificent Heritage, considered National Monument since 1910. The famous church was built in the eighteenth century, between 1732 and 1749 and this was the most emblematic work of the architect Nicolau Nasoni. Is one of the most beautiful temples of baroque feature, and a reference in the history of Porto. The Exhibitions allow to discover the history of the Brotherhood of Clérigos, admire pieces from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century, in painting, furniture, jewellery and vestment collections. Christus collection, on the 3 floor, is a trip through time and space where art and religion complement each other.

If you are up for a challenge that is the stair case leading you to the top of the tower where you can overlook the city of Porto. There is an exibt that teaches so much about the towers and religious art. The church is breath Taking. Its am amaizing experience.

You can walk up inside the Tower but I was actually more interested in the interior of the Church stunning

The tower is impressive and the view is very nice. However, be prepared for the stairs! The upper view of the church is very interesting.

Go to top and just enjoy the view. It's simply an amazing experience! You can see almost every bit of Porto from the tower.

The highest point in Porto delivers a very nice view over the city. Tip: try to get there around sunset, but bear in mind that there can be a waiting line to climb the tower!

I was doubtful about climbing the tower because of 200 plus steps and some of the reviews I read made it sound a bit daunting. However, I gave it a go and it was one of the best things I did in Porto. I'm in my fifties, far from fit and hardly a lightweight but the climb was really no... More

There are numerous vertical experiences in Porto and this is excellent way to see that marvellous vista all over again. The climb is fairly easy compared to others we have been up and has an interesting history of the Clerigos brotherhood, church, and tower on each floor. We climbed up as the light was fading so got to see all... More

It was suggested that we visit the Clerigos Tower to obtain wonderful views over the city and so it proved to be. Quite a climb to get to the top and with a very narrow stairway, made access a little difficult at times but well worth the effort.

The views from the Clerigos Tower are lovely. You get a panoramic view of the city and the Douro river which was lovely when we went up around sunset. The staircase is tight though, and the stairs are uneven so caution is advised. It can also be a bit chilly so make sure you wrap up! However the views are... More
