Set beneath the Bolsa Palace which was partly built on the grounds of St. Francisco convent, this is one of the Porto's best. There's a pretty high entry fee (8 Euros if I remember correctly), but it is worth it.
The interiors are unbelievably rich, covered in detailed gilded wood work. Despite the main altar being covered for renovations as many others say here, I still give it 5 as the side chapels are literally stunning.
The ticket enables you to visit a museum and catacombs which were really interesting.

I have seen hundreds of ancient churches and cathedrals around the world, and this particular one may be the most ornate of all of them. The amount of gold applied to all of the incredibly intricate carved decorations is also over the top. I don't know why they do this, but officially photos are not allowed of the interior of this facility,. But our guide had been there for an event earlier that month, and photos were allowed when she was there. Go figure?

You must pay an average ticket price, but you get to visit one of the most amazing, intricate carved wood and plaster Baroque creations to be found in Europe. Quite a lot to take in visually. No photos allowed. Careful with hidden cameras, the security guards will spot you no matter how clever you think you are :-)

Absolutely stunning architecture and decor but cant help feeling unsettled about all those who sacrificed and gained for its sake.

Also makes you wonder why ´we´dont make things like this any more.

Clearly the organisation behind this ´monstrame´had no need for the pennies of the poor but at every corner there are boxes for ésmolas´(alms) playing on their guilt in promise of relief... just made me sad.

Equally uncomfortable to pay €8/person for entry; we spent about 30 mins and then left. If this is a national monument, not sure what warrants the levy.

I was very uncomfortable in the catacombes and would have liked both more warning about what was down there... and information about those who lie there.

My wife and I were disappointed. The admission price is high (17 euros total for the two of us) and the high altar is currently blocked up and not viewable due to renovation. Pictures are not allowed inside the gold church. We liked Igreja Santa Clara better. The gold is even more spectacular now that its renovation is complete, admission is only 4 euros, and photos are allowed.

The interior of this church is quite ornate and rather unique, and the brochure does a good job describing it. The cyrpt is kinda cool, but the graves/burial area is nothing fancy. I don't go into many churches anymore on travels, but this one was good to see.

Spent a solid 1 hour here, taking pictures and and taking in the beautiful chapels. There's a confusing sign in front that makes it seem like you can't take pictures, but we asked and the guy said no flash. The carvings are ornate and the tombs/crypts are quite extensive.

I think this is one if the most beautiful churches I have ever seen, certainly one of the most intricately decorated. Sadly they don't allow photos or video inside so I have nothing to share here.
But it is mesmerising, it really is. Especially the carved Jesse and The Tree of Life. I just cant believe the detail. Watch out for the depictions of the beheading if the Moors too.
Gorgeous gold gilt everywhere and lovely sunlight in through the windows light the place up.
It costs a stiff €7.50 to get in but that includes the atmospheric catacombs and the museum across the small courtyard.
An absolute must do. As I said, no photos so you just have to go and see it for yourself. You simply will not believe your eyes.

What I liked about this Church is that it has wood everywhere inside. Never have seen anything like it. Gave it a 4 because it was almost toooo much. They have some history as part of an exhibit in the adjoining building with cripes in the basement.
Worth a stop.

From the photos of the inside, you will notice that this is a very ornate church but being able to see it in person was another thing. With baroque style architecture, this church is one of the most beautiful I have seen. Entrance fee is 8 Euros.
