There is a lot to see here both inside and outside, and there was a good mix of internationally known artists and artists who are better known in this part of the world.

We visited Serralves Museum as a couple. First of all, I must this is not for everyone. They run two wonderful exhibitions: Kapoor ( in the gardens included in admissions) and Mirò ( 6 euro on top). They also have other couple of exhibitions (...More

One of the best contempoary art collections in Europe and the adjoining house and garden are stunning. Definitely give yourself time to see the art, walk the gardens and see the art deco house that is magnificent.

By accident we found an exciting Mapplethorpe photo exhibition (until January 6) in this modern art museum, located in a very interesting park arrangement. It is worth a visit also on sunny days, has a nice café and a restaurant. The museum shop offers a...More

Pleasant and interesting museum, beuatiful gardens (even in the rain...). Excellent exhibition of Anish Kapur works, thoughts and experiments; outstanding exhibition of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs (some of them very provocative); however both exhibitions end in January.

I eriousely advise to visit the museum and the gardens as the main house. Beautiful for the week end. You can also have your meal at the restaurant wich is very cosy.

Serralves park and museum lie outside the center and not easily reached. The museum hosts temporal exposition of different artists and the park some big art pieces. Waiting time for ticket was long as outside booth was closed because of off-season. The exposed collection of...More

We had a good visit here. The building is very modern so it is a contrast to what you see in the old town. It is out of the middle of the old town and all the touristy stuff so it feels peaceful. And you...More

The museum was ok, I guess. I got to see the exhibit of Robert Maplethorpe, which is an American photographer whom I admire. It's a relatively small place, few exhibition chambers, nothing reeeeaaaally special about it. It costs 10 euros to enter, which I consider...More

We ate in the café in the gardens, next to the former tennis courts. The food was good value and very tasty. We had toasted cheese and ham sandwiches; you could say it was quite "rustic," or not very sophisticated, but it... More

Yes, big albeit public space by the office, but as you'd only ever arrive by car I'd just leave your stuff locked in your vehicle - openly parked out front, minimal chance of any problem

Day-Trip From Lisbon: Sintra or Porto? (4 Replies)
I am planning my first trip to Lisbon in February, and I intend to do a day trip, although I only have time for one. Initially I planned to visit Sintra, due in part to how much everyone raves about it, plus I'd love to see its stunning architecture for myself. However I've just stumbled across Ryanair flights to Porto for only 22 euros return, departing from Lisbon at 8am and leaving Porto in the evening at 9pm. Porto is another city that I've always really wanted to see, and now I'm torn....More

In my opinion Porto deserves more than a daytrip visit. But if you are going: Flying there seems cheap and quicker than going by train, but consider that you still have to be around 2 hours before at the airport and then take transport to city center, so at the end and considering that the train takes around 3 hours and you can get very discounted tickets when buying well in advance, flying isn't really better than taking a train. If you take the first and last AP trains you'll get almost...More

Porto Itinerary (4 Replies)
Hi I've just booked a four day break to Porto between Christmas and New year. I have been googling all afternoon!! So far on my list are - Cais de Ribeira, Serralves Museum, Sao Francisco Church, Palacio da Bolsa, Cathedral, Clerigos Tower, Dom Luis Bridge. I don't think we would probably go to all of these, bur wondered if I have missed anything? We like a bit of culture and a few beers! Also any ideas for good and cheap(ish) vegetarian food places? I wondered about going to Espinho beach...More

Taxi and other stuff (0 Replies)
Going to Oporto (plane) for a full day mainly to see an exhibition in Serralves and have some questions: How much, roughly, is a taxi from the airport to Serralves Foundation? One from Serralves to Alfandega do Porto (customs) - we are having lunch nearby- and a final on back to the airport? Considering I am travelling with 2 relatives who are both 80 could you suggest some activities that doesn’t involve too much walking? We have been to Porto before and to some of the main sites...More
