Four of us (3 wine drinkers, one abstaining) enjoyed a tasting of ports led by Maria late this April. The experience was outstanding. Maria taught us about port's origins, manufacture, and varieties. Although this location does not have caves to visit or slick videos about the various vintners, etc (like some other port producers) this location offers an opportunity to sample some very special products from small boutique producers of the Douro Valley. We were able to taste (and purchase several bottles) what was unanimously felt to be the best white port we tasted in our time in Portugal. Visit Lado Wines for an unparalleled opportunity to explore the region - if lucky, Maria will be your guide!

We did the 4 wines, 4 ports paired with cheese tasting experience here.
The wines and ports were from independent producers and were all simply stunning. Really clever range of tastes to contrast and spark interest.
Staff were great - learned lots about the wines and the role they play in the region's economy.
Loved it.

We had the Porto wine tasting experience for €25. The wine tasting contained six different wines, all ranging from three to ten years of aging. The owner gave a very good and nice explanation about the history of porto wine. She also explained the differences between the porto wines and told us which ones to compare with each other.
The setting is very calm. I do recommend that if you want to sit outside that you make a reservation.
The wines were very nice as well.

Booked a wine tasting based on the reviews and made sure we booked with Maria as she gets high praise. When we arrived Maria said she was handing us over to her colleague Dominique as she had some errands to run. She did ask if that was OK - we were disappointed but felt there was no option other than to proceed. Dominique seems knowledgeable but he was very subdued and he only shared some basic introductory information followed by “Let me know if you have questions”. He went about his work in the store at this point so we sat there and tasted the wines, without any further interaction or information. We did ask a couple of questions, but we didn’t really know what to ask and replies were very brief. After some time Maria did return and we were able to engage with her briefly which was enjoyable and informative.
Overall the experience was very disappointing, especially for 25 Euros per person. (Later did a fabulous one in Madrid for 15 Euros per person with great interaction and fun.) Wines were very good though. If you book, we would suggest you ensure you will get Maria.

We had an opportunity to to try some port and had heard so many wonderful things about this place, and came across town to try. We were excited to find mostly empty tables assuming they could take walk-in. The woman turned us away at the door - she said that she had 2 tastings about to start and adding two more people was too rushed. We were surprised! The bar was mostly empty tables and apparently pouring two more glasses was too much. Lado doesn't need our money, so we went elsewhere. Can't recommend.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.
We have at least 2 tasting sessions per day that you can join easily by booking even last minute except we we reached the maximum capacity. The fact that you see an empty place doesn’t mean it will be empty in the next minutes.
I never said it was too rushed to add more glasses, even if we’re not talking about 2 glasses but at least 6 each.
You probably came during some other schedule for private tasting so I think it’s only natural that we give priority to people who previously booked.
Thank you for your opinion but we’ll keep on focusing on the quality of the experience and never on getting as much possible of your money.
Best Regards,

It was a great experience, both the wines and the cheese from local producers were really delicious. Maria was really friendly and she knew wine pairing and wine production really well. This was one of my favorite experiences in Porto. I can fully recommend it to anyone.

Maria was very knowledgeable and introduced us to the history and styles of Port. She also gave us a recommendation of a house to visit in the Douro river valley that was a highlight of our trip. Definitely worth a visit when in Porto

If you want to discover wines from the Douro, you need to go there.
This place is represents only small producers and the staff is so passionate and knowledgeable. They will gladly share their passion with you without any pretention.
Fluent in English and they seemed to speak French and Spanish to.

We had an 8 glass tasting with Magda (?) and it was a really nice experience.
We went as a couple and there were a few others in our group. The host was really knowledgable, informative and passionate.
The wine and port were good, as was the cheese!
Only slight negative was that the measures of drinks didn’t seem equal for all members of the group.
A nice way to spend an hour or so.

Are reservations required or are we able to walk-in? Is the format “tastings only” or is this also a wine bar if you cannot get a tasting? I would love to be able to visit!
