Went to 5 locations and had a drink and multiple food at each. Did not eat at lunch and was pretty full after this experience. Everything was planned very well and it was nice to go into a restaurant, have a table reserved, have petiscos be served quickly, and have a small group (other couples) to chat with while enjoying your wine.

The tour was absolutely fantastic, we spent about 3 1/2 hours going around central Porto trying a variety of different foods. Our tour guide Julia was incredibly friendly and provided us with a wonderful experience. My favourite part of the tour was definitely our visit to the Bolhão temporary market, where we got to sit down and try a variety of tinned fish and dried meats with matching wine pairings. I’ve never had tinned fish before and it’s definitely opened up a new world of food for my boyfriend and I. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants a good introduction to Portuguese food. Thanks again Julia!!!

João was a delightful guide. As a Portuguese native, he was very knowledgeable about the area…the traditional foods….and local wines. He was very personable, sharing stories and some history, and chose very unique establishments for us to visit. The small group setting was fantastic, as we were able to engage with him, the local owners, as well as each other. It was a priceless experience!

João was absolutely wonderful! He’s been living in Portugal for 10+ years and has built up a relationship with each of the businesses we went to. Not just the owners and managers, the staff, clerks, everybody. Which I personally really appreciated. It really showed he genuinely cared for the people and took pride in his job and showing us around. He’s so knowledgeable on the area, the region, and the food itself, and not afraid to answer any question.

It was easy to book the three hour Petiscos food tour online for around €63 per person in summer 2024, and the Food Lover Tour team were responsive via email when I needed to amend the booking. The other parties to the tour bailed at the last minute, however, so it turned into a private tour - great for us, but perhaps not quite fully representative of normal service! It was easy to find the meeting place for the beginning of the tour, and Flavia, our guide, was fantastic. Professional, with great English, but also very friendly and adept at tailoring what she talked about to the level of detail. We tasted a range of sweet and savoury foods and different kinds of alcohol over the course of the tour, which took place around the Bolhão area. We didn’t ask Flavia to concentrate on any particular food/drinks/parts of Porto, but she asked us for preferences so she could presumably have taken preferences into account to an extent - though the company also (rightly!) ask you to give them dietary preferences ahead of time via email. The tour is excellent, would definitely recommend it - especially if you get Flavia as your guide!

Hands-down the best way to explore the food of the city and make some new travel friends in the process. As a solo traveler, it really helped me orient myself.
João was a wonderful guide, giving us both the context on the food culture and the city's culture and history. He even took some photos for us along the way. Would highly reccomend.

My tour was to be with my two college age daughters . Hey we’re unable to attend the tour-I thoroughly enjoyed a solo tour with Jaoa! It was my lucky day! We began at a historical cafe for coffee and local pastries. As we walked from there, Jaoa pointed out monuments and buildings of significance. He took photos of me if I requested. Each stop was amazing - really informative , the right amount of food/beverage to sample. I must say, as great as every stop was, the highlight of the tour was conversation with Jaoa. As a chef by education , Jaoa knows his stuff. I received really great recommendations for restaurants, where to buy wine, best place to buy pastel de Nata and watch it bring made , I mean I can’t remember a tour that offered so much information, recommendations, history etc.I HIGHLY recommend a tour with Jaoa for foodies and anyone that would enjoy a relaxing walking tour with a personable and knowledgeable local guide.

This was my first food tour so I wasn’t sure what to expect hit was overall very pleased with the afternoon. It was paced well so you never felt overly full. There were drink pairings throughout, and our party bought several of the foods and wines we tried during the tour to take home for the holidays — a good sign! Not too much walking or hills, and easy going tour and guide.

Our host was Ben - he was absolutely amazing. He was funny, engaging and extremely knowledgeable about the area. He shared stories about Portugal and himself and it felt like a good friend was taking us around town to show off local treasures. He is an absolute gem and I am pleased to have met him. Highly recommended.

João was a fantastic tour guide. He was very engaging and shared a lot about the Portuguese culture, which I found fascinating. The food, of course, was spot on. We tried all kinds of treats and provisions were made for a gluten free member of our family, which was very much appreciated.
