We stopped for lunch with a large group. The restaurant handled the large group well. As is customary, bread we readily available at the table. We had a traditional dish made with potatoes, salted cad and egg which was good. The server was efficient. Overall this was a pleasant stop.

Located down by the waters edge, is the oldest door/ passage way through the old walls of porto, it is easy to miss, but worth a look for historic value.

If you are in the square then its worth the thirty seconds to see it. Or if it starts to rain you can get under cover, be aware that the water runs off there also the steps have their very own river. Wet feet alert.

We booked a table at 9pm and were seated, we were shown menus and ordered starters, mains and drinks. At 9.20 our waitress returned to tell us all the starters we ordered had run out, we decided to just have main courses instead, 15 minutes later the waitress returned again and said one of the main courses now had run out, so we had to pick another main course, this was 32 minutes after ordering. We eventually got the food 1 hour and 5 minutes after entering the building.
The food was very good, but they seem hopeless with organising what’s available and what is not available on the menu. A ruined first night in Porto.

One of my favorite lunches on our visit! The grilled sardines were excellent as was the almond pie our server suggested.

This was a simple tunnel under a building and had little to offer. You will find it down along the river in the Riberira restaurant area.

Former hatch into the city from the piers. Part of old city walls.

You will see it strolling the Cais da Ribeira

Walking along the banks of the Douro before reaching Praca da Ribeira and the Dom Luiz I bridge, we came across this gate and its interesting history. It is the only one that remains of the 18 that the Fernandina wall had that protected the city of Porto and that was built in the 14th century. From this gate the Rua da Fonte Taurina joined the Cais da Ribeira
