This sloping garden does not really tempt you to walk out onto the lawn - so it is not so much a public park as mere decoration and backdrop to the surroundings and the monument.
The square/garden is strategically situated next to the Bolsa Palace, below a covered market and there are several churches and museums in the surroundings.
The monument in its center displays the statue of Prince Henry known as the Navigator who was born in a small street just at the south of the square - the Casa do Infante which is now a museum (well worth visiting!).
The area was previously part of a convent of Dominicans; with the abolishment of religious orders in 1834 it was converted into the garden located in the center of modern monumental buildings of the late 19th century.

Lovely expanse of greenery in front of the Palacio da Bolsa, more like a manicured lawn actually.
It's dominated by the elegant statue of the 14th century explorer Henry The Navigator who I remember learning about in school as bring an Intrepid seafarer who explored south along tbe coast of Africa as far as Cape Bojador, further than anyone had before him.
Anyway, a lovely garden park in the heart of a busy past of the city and well worth a stop.

A small but nice park by the beautiful Palacio da Bolsa. It is located at the end of Rua Mouzinho da Silveira. A great place to relax very close to Ribeira. Excellent garden, well situated and well kept. Worth a visit I recommend it.

These gardens are named after Prince Henry the Navigator (1394–1460) depicted in the elevated statue – a leader in the Age of Discoveries and pioneer of the caravel (a small, fast ship), who braved the battering Atlantic in search of colonies for Portugal's collection.
The Palacio da Bolsa faces the square and the Cais da Ribeira is just a short walk away.

This place is really nice. Beautifully manicured grass, historical buildings surrounding it, it is a place where you can relax and just feel Porto.

On the second full day of our September Oporto adventure, our driver/guide took us to the City Center, and Jardim do Infante Dom Henrique (Henry the Navigator), and Prince Henry is depicted in the square’s center, high upon a pedestal. Depending on the source, this square is likely to be referred to as the “Praça do Infante Dom Henrique.” It is much more a park, or square, than a garden, though there were some nice plantings.
Using this square as the pivot of our visual compass, we gazed out to so many important points of interest: the Stock Exchange, Ferreira Borges Market, the Church of St Nicholas, and St Francis Church and Palácio da Bolsa. Just beyond those, are the Museu da Ordem de São Francisco to the south, and to the north, Palácio des Artes – we did find ourselves in the City Center, and after admiring both the statue, and the surrounding buildings, launched out for our exploration of Oporto. Just admiring the historical architecture, that rings this square is easily a 1 hr experience. We were unfortunately bound a bit by time (we had a lot of territory to cover, as our trip had been shortened by 4 days, due to business), so only spent about 30 mins, gazing around, and trying to absorb the history, which surrounded us.
This lovely square is a perfect starting point for such an exploration, and also enjoyable in itself. It did not hurt, that we had a lovely Autumn day for our exploration.

To one side is the Palcio da Bolsa where Henry the Navigator was born and to the north is the 19th century market Mercado Ferreira Borges. Centrally located in the gardens is the statue of Henry himself. Prince Henry the navigator (1394-1460) was seen as responsible for Golden Age of Portugese expansion around the world.

Our toddler loved running around the grass in front of the statue, especially to chase the pigeons, and as it happened to be between our accommodation and the river, we visited it a few times. There are also some benches by the statue.

Memorializing one of the world's great explorers, the monument is near several other highlights on a tour of old town Porto. The Palacio Bolsa, the Ribeira, and classic tram line are all close and worth a visit. We snapped a great photo of "Henry" with a unique cap--a large sea gull perched on his head!!!
