In downtown Porto, you’re bound to pass the Lion Fountain. It is widely believed that this was JK Rowling’s inspiration for Gryffindor’s lion. But maybe this was the inspiration for Buckbeak, the large, winged creature from the movie called Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban? It's an easily accessible statue in Porto - it's free and in the open air. It's very close to Livraria Lello.

In Praça de Gomes Teixeira so find this fountain, opposite the Rectorate of the University. The fountain that was not built here, is one of the symbols of the city. Its construction began in 1882 and was completed four years later, with the aim of providing drinking water to this part of the city. The Fonte dos Leões is currently a meeting point for students, tourists and residents.

It is located in Praça de Gomes Teixeira. It's called also Lions fountain because of four lions pouring water. It's not only beautiful but as I read before, the fountain brought clean water to this part of Porto. So not only beautiful but significant for public health at that time. Nearby are two wonderful churches, university and famous Livraria Lello.
