This green space with its commanding view towards Ponte da Arrábida is a good view point at any time of day but really comes alive in the evening when the locals congregate to socialise and watch the sun set.
One key reason why Passeio das Virtudes is the best spot in Porto for watching the sun go down is because it is festooned with eating and drinking establishments. There are two standard bars and two restaurants along its stretch, and now there is the recent addition of the Musa craft beer bar, all of which have outside tables. But then you can take your drinks onto the concrete platform of the Miradouro.
A great spot, don’t miss it when in Porto.

Perfect place to enjoy a clear view and the greenery of a park at the same time. The place is calm and even serves as a yoga spot for locals. Great view of the Douro, Gaia and the roofs.

I read that the sunset was wonderful on Passeio das virtudes so I went there.
It's really easy to get to Passeio das virtudes but once there, you'll se that is very crowded and nothing is like you read it about so I just passed by.
I'm glad i did so because i found another sight seeing place worth the visit.
I just got up into Rua de São Miguel until I reach the Vitoria Church and found the Miradouro da Vitória which is nearby Passeio das virtudes.
So I didn't see the sunset in passeio das virtudes but got the chance to discover this fantastic spot Miradouro da vitória.

Outdoor drinking and pot-smoking location. Pretty grim and noisy. Not quite what others are suggesting. In an otherwise quiet neighbourhood. There are nicer places to see the sunset if you must.

Great spot to sit on the grass, grab a beer and some "tremoços", and enjoy the sunset above the river. Usually a little crowded, but it is worth it. Really near the city center, and near a lot of restaurants to have dinner after.

Passeio das Virtudes is a natural elevated street from where you can get an amazing view over the river, the bridge Ponte da arrabida and Gaia on the south bank. Since it's turned to the west it's a great place to see the sunset. It's very popular so the terrace gets crowded at the end of the evening

This is really just a narrow terrace but has great views out towards the river. Each time I've visited it there have been quite a few people there. It seems to be a spot where people come to sit, talk and enjoy the view,

Took a bit of uphill walking (as is the case with much of Porto) but the view is well worth it. Maybe take a picnic and hang here for a bit.

This is a good place to get a view of the river down below, plus the city of Gaia on the other side of the river. This charming area is right off the Virtudes park area.
