This place is a great sunset and sunrise viewing area, you will be left speechless when you see the beautiful sunset from up here. We did not enter the church but as far as I'm concern it was no charge to go inside this beautiful old church. Definitely a place to go with kids as they have awesome areas to walk around and explore.

This modern church, set atop the highest point in the area is worth visiting if for no other reason than the magnificent views of Guimaraes below and the surrounding countryside. We rode the cable car up at 10 am on a weekday. With very few people around our time strolling the grounds was made all the more peaceful and serene. This impressive building is worth seeing as part of your mountaintop visit.

Really nice area to go for a walk. There are some spots to be visited, a church, ruines, huge rocks (one can walk through), nice forest, a bit hilly but with nice maintained pathes. Can either be accessed by car (free parking) or by chairlift.

Oh my god the view from this place is incredible, the ocean, the village, the river... amazing. Take a note, it's going to be really windy, but i think that's normal. I visited the " Zimborio" is the highest place in the sanctuary. You take an elevator to the top floor and then will climb a stairs to top. So nice!!

Whereas the Teleferic ride was enjoyable, and the Parque area is both interesting and attractive, the actual church is something of a disappointment.

Built in the modern style, the exterior could be described as minimalist, which is code for boringly plain. The interior follows suit with no feature that catches the eye as being particularly interesting or attractive.

The church itself is simple but attractive, but our real reason for visiting was for the view of the city from the lookout, which is impressive. As with many other reviewers, we took the teleferico up. It's short, but fun.

Behind the church are some landscaped gardens and a picnic area obviously popular with local people, and many trails through the park area (which we did not explore).

Beautiful and cozy church on top of the mountain, in the Penha national park. Even though it is accessible by car, taking the cable car ride from town is a lot more fun. The views from the park around the church are spectacular. Bring a good zoom for the visit. A must see when in Guimaraes.

The sanctuary of Penha consists of an art deco church with a vast forecourt in a lovely wild natural setting. Small tracks with steps run between the huge and mossy boulders. The project was realised by architect José Marques da Silva between 1930 and 1947. The church is built entirely of nature stone in two different colours.

Other highlights of this big name in Portuguese architecture are the São Bento Station and the Casa de Serralves in Porto and the Municipal Market in Guimarães.
I'm still wandering why the ship of the church is a more severe example of art deco than the rather traditional lay-out of the tower. Maybe the project was altered during construction? Who knows as it tooks 17 years before the completion was reached.
From this area, you have great views on the city of Guimarães.

After a wonderful cable car ride, a beautiful church with a commanding view of the city. I can understand why this sanctuary was built. It is a beautiful church and is small and intimate. The entire moutain top is spectacular with walking/driving trails and monuments.

Petit and simple with not that much of history but very well integrated in the nature and the surroundings and with a very nice view over the city.
