this is a quaint, beautiful, lively town, restaurants are reasonably priced, and we felt very welcomed by the people there

As you come down the hill from the Palace of the Duchess of Braga a you enter the historic centre. We visited on 8/9/16. There are quaint buildings as you walk through it wasn't heaving with people but there are a couple of nice squares where you can sit quietly also just down the road from the tourist information office... It has secured its sustainability during centuries and delivers this sense to its visitors. Spend enough time to explore all the pedestrians and walk down to the old post industrial area. It worth it!

The center of Guimaraes is nice, but rather small. A walk of about 30 minutes covers the whole area. I would have expected more knowing that the city is a Unesco World Heritage Site. There are many similar places in Portugal.

Great historic city, beautiful, calm place, even with all the tourists (and there are plenty), definitely a place to visit when traveling in Portugal!

Lively atmosphere with many tourists coming from all over the world. Live music on the streets, at the cafés or restaurants.

Guimarães is one of the most beautifully kept cities in Portugal. Its historical center is truly the one place where the new does not collide with the old.

It's a lovely city to walk around and visit the little restaurants, stores and bars or rest in a patio of a café having an ice-cream. Love to go there and discover the new art stores and everything new that is poping out. Very pleasurable city, where Portugal was born, old and new close and living together.

We are staying here for two weeks in the Historical District on the Largo de Misericordia and we are halfway through our visit. The District is fairly compact and easy to stroll around, with nice surprises on each turn. Every Square and Plaza has a new church to explore and the narrow streets and well maintained buildings are a pleasure.... More
