Guimarães is one of the most beautifully kept cities in Portugal. Its historical center is truly the one place where the new does not collide with the old.

It's a lovely city to walk around and visit the little restaurants, stores and bars or rest in a patio of a café having an ice-cream. Love to go there and discover the new art stores and everything new that is poping out. Very pleasurable city, where Portugal was born, old and new close and living together.

We are staying here for two weeks in the Historical District on the Largo de Misericordia and we are halfway through our visit. The District is fairly compact and easy to stroll around, with nice surprises on each turn. Every Square and Plaza has a new church to explore and the narrow streets and well maintained buildings are a pleasure.... More

This medieval town is a great place to stroll around, especially after sunset when all the lights are on. Beautiful old buildings with tiled facades, a caste and a palace. All within walking distance. Well worth the visit.

Just Sit and look. Take a little walk, visit the oldies building and the churchs. Its a great place at Guimarães.

We walked around for just a little bit while searching for a lunch place and then walking up to the castle, but Guimarães is adorable. Clean, easy to navigate, with gorgeous granite buildings and beautiful pops of color given by flowers or crowded clotheslines. The locals are super friendly too, specially shop owners!

you can go around very peacefuly, visit the remarkable San Francisco church (very peaceful, we were welcomed by the priest) and have lunch or dinner at the main place or choose among many typical restaurants. Very delightful stay!
