Visit the historical Bragança.
Jun 2020
To visit the “Militairy Museum” you have to enter the Castle of Bragança, who is one of the most representative of medieval architecture, the castle has been built in the year 1409 on order of D. João I. the complex has a double wall, and is very well maintained, in front the Plaza de Armas, known as the citadel or town, here are located also the Church of Santa Maria and Domus Municipalis, here are maintaind the old medieval street houses narrow and small whitewashed houses.
The Military Museum of Bragança occupies the entire interior of the Tower, imposing itself as a memory space of the military experiences of the city, since most of the original pieces were donated by the inhabitants, participating in the Campaigns of Africa and World War I.

Centuries of military history
Nov 2019
The treacherously steep climb up the rough and uneven stone stairway to the museum's doorway in the side of the tall tower inside the castle's inner walls is well worth he effort for those interested in the collection of weapons and armor from medieval times to World War II. Everything from the era of swords, steel helmets and chain mail to cannons from both Napoleonic invaders and the times of Ernest Hemingway. The history of so many defenders of this peaceful rural countryside and magnificent hilltop walled city are preserved here.

Museu Militar de Bragança is the military museum located in the main tower of the Fortress of Bragança, a city in Portugal near the border with Spain. In fact, here you can see some military clothes and objects and especially you can learn a lot about the history of the country. Some very important moment you can read about are the final independence from Spain in 17th Century or the creation of the Kingdom of Portugal in 12th Century. Very interesting for history-lovers and for people, who like to enter in Middle Ages building (main tower of the fortress).

Very interesting to learn about Portugal History

Museu Militar is located in the main Tower of the Bragança Fortress, in the little homonymous town, which is located in the North of Portugal, close to the border with Spain.
This museum is very interesting, if you want to learn a lot about the most important points in the history of Portugal and his fight against Spain for the independence. So, you read about the creation of the kingdom of Portugal in the 12th Century, the fight to obtain the final independence in 17th Century, or the Tordesillas Treaty (where Spain and Portugal divided the conquered territories in the new continent). Also, the main tower is very nice and you can see the inner rooms. Very interesting for history-lovers.

You have to drive uphill in order to reach the Military Museum of Bragança, you have to drive through an old gate before you will arrive to the open space were you are able to park the car, the museum occupies the whole interior of the Tower of Homage of the Castle of Bragança, and is so constituting a space for the memory of the military experiences of the city. This museum was founded in 1929 in order to help the recovery of the castle. Its funds are made up of a collection of light weapons ranging from the 12th century to the 1st World War, ranging from Neolithic axes to 17th century rifles, through banners; as well as photographs, period furniture and instruments of war, including artistic objects from the African colonies, especially from Angola. Most of the original pieces were donated by villagers who participated in the Africa Campaigns and World War I. From the platform of the tower, which reaches the respectable height of 33 meters, enjoy the excellent panorama of the old city, the low city and the nearby hills. WE were unfortunately too late to visit the Museum and the church from the inside, but never mind it is an awesome place to visit, we will return anyhow on another date and time to visit the interior.
