My first of the old town when walking up from the train station was this lovely decorative arch. It spans the narrow road attached on both sides to elegant buildings. It certainly lets you know you are entering a beautiful part of town as the historic centre is indeed a gem.

The Arch of the New Gate is a lovely sight. It is a gateway to the time before the present in the beautiful city of Braga. We went to Braga by train from Porto and this was one of the very first things we saw. It is an early 16the century construction! This spot was the site where dignitaries and celebrities were honoured by the city authorities. A defensive wall was constructed around the whole city around the late 14th century, and this important gate was put up at a later stage. Also some reconstruction work was undertaken towards the latter part of the 18th century. There is some beautiful decorative design work on the construction too. It is a lovely spot and worth stopping by for a while to admire.

At the end or at the beginning of the De Souto street, it all depends from which side you come is this nice Arc to stroll underneath.

To be honest there is nothing special about the arc and the door. It is a tourist attraction. You can just go and cost and take the moment.

We stayed at a hotel nearby and walked through this both at night, and the next morning to see the castle in the old town. The gate is lit at night and quite pretty.

The arch is a start point to the beauty of the city.
Such a beautiful construction as a open gate to the city.
As you are here enjoy some photos and have a nice tour

Arch was covered in a huge pennant memorializing 50 years since the Revolution and overthrow of Salazar. It is not particularly memorable when compared to many other arches throughout Europe including the Arc de Triumph in Lisbon. Took a photo and moved on!

It is another spot to visit in Braga at the end of a very busy street. It doesn't really look like to me that it belongs here, but it is still a view. You will probably just walk through it and continue to some other sights of the city.
