We took Portugal GreenWalks' 8 day self-guided walking tour of the Douro Valley. Both the itinerary and the execution were perfect. The accommodations were wonderful and there were no glitches at all in the transport of our luggage or the check-in at our hotels. You really can't do better. The Douro Valley in May is magical. The walks themselves were very manageable (we are in our early 70's), but there are many hill climbs involved -- it is best to start early before the afternoon heat.

Portuguese Green Walks is the best company for walking the Camino. They helped us with advice, upgrading some of our hotels and much more. My husband had surgery and we had to postpone our original trip and Jose said “don’t worry, we will not charge you until you are ready to go. We got wonderful accommodations.

We were greeted by Chico from Portugal Green Walks who gave us our documentation and drove us outside Porto to start the cycle with our bikes. Bikes were in excellent condition and luggage transfer was included, which we needed as it turned out. We cycled for 7 days. Day 2 Espondes to Camhina was the most difficult. I would advise leaving early, taking not too long breaks, travelling light and helping each other with bikes up stairs. Jose from PGW responded quickly if there was a problem. I would not hesitate to recommend Portugal Green Walks to family and friends in Ireland. Lovely coastal views on the first few days and hotels were excellent value and mostly in good location. Expect to cycle through forests, uphills and on cobblestones. Buen Camino 😁 Patricia

I am so glad that I had this experience with a great group of people! The host Carla is an amazing host! Her uplifting spirit made a big difference! From Grapes picking, morning snacks, to grapes stomping, harvesting lunch and wine tasting, it was a day to remember for a long time! Highly recommend this experience!
