This was a short walk from our hotel so we visited every day for a swim in the sea. There were jet skis and a big inflatable water park in the bay that we also went on. Pebbled beach as are most in Madeira, the sea was great though once you were in

Praia do Lido is the small black pebble beach of the Funchal hotel area.I always prefer the sea here to a pool.
Swimming is possible but be carefull of large waves and slippery rocks.
Next to the beach the large public swimming pool Lido has been renovated and opened end 2015 after 5 years renovation. the attractive lido pool was damage by winterstorms

Not being very technologically minded I cannot add a picture but this place was really good.
It costs €7.50 to hire a life jacket you then swim 50 + metres out to see ( the whole area is buoyed off). From here there is a large raft of pontoon slides sac which you can use to enter and exit the sea. The price is per hour but swimming in the sea climbing on and off the slides and pontoons is very tiring (. I was shattered) was great fun. My 10 year old loved it despite the mouthfuls of sea water. You can snorkel here and we saw plenty of fish and an octopus ( which is probably been served in a restaurant here now!!!. Octopus is popular on the menus).

You can swim in the sea for free it is a bit tricky getting in as the slipway is difficult.

If you like sea swimming here is the place to go.

To find it is in between the Porto mare residence hotel and the meliamare hotels in Funchal.

Excellent and huge saltwater pool next to the sea. Sea water temperature 22 degrees in December. Excellent access to the sea via metal stairs. The photos of the pebble beach that appear on this website are not of Lido but of Gavinas beach which is next door
