We are so glad that we chose this company to show us the highlights of Madeira. We didn't choose Madeira as our original holiday destination so we didn't know what to expect. Due to Covid and cancelled holidays we came for a week to get away from the UK and wanted to fill our week with exploring the island. We chose 3 tours, Madeira East, Madeira West and Nuns Valley. Our guide for all 3 tours was Tony. He made the tours. He was knowledgable, he was funny, he was kind and patient, he drove very well (only the 2nd best Driver on the island according to him), he was never in any hurry to finish and his flora and fauna knowledge astounded us no end. We are so glad we were given this guide for 3 days of our week, we can honestly say that this made our holiday. We thank the company and Tony for his neverending stories of how the island came to be.

Lucy was a super fun guide. She made the trip wonderful from the moment she introduced herself and everyone to each other. She knew everything about everything!!! Lucy loves her island and loves her job. Her enthusiasm was passed on to us.

Love little trip with some nice views and a go on the Tobago from Monte. Lucy was a good guide and very informative about the area and gave some great pointers. The Nuns Valley museum isn't a great thing though.. needed a good clean and updated/extended as it didn't say anything about the Nuns escape to the Valley many years ago

Response from Lucy D, General Manager at Secret Madeira

Hello Guests Thank you for the review. I spoke to the owner of the museum like i had promised you on the day of the tour. The owner of the museum explained that the nuns old museum house was an old stone house where all the windows and doors were open, since it was a rainy and windy day they had more dust coming into the museum than usual. Before our group arrived at the museum there had been another walking group that came in with their walking boots and had left the old wooden floor a little stained. The stop at the nuns valley is for you to see the landscape this is why i took you to Fajã Escuro to see the mountains and old roads and to visit the church. All the other attractions which normally are payed for like the museum of the nuns and chestnut house were free to guests due to Covid 19. Never the less i apologise for this although is not our responsibility to check if the museum is clean or not since our company does not own nor the restaurant nor the museum. When guest make their complaints we do a follow up to check why this had happened. The museum also has a complaint/comment book you could have left your opinion there as well. Thank you for your comment. Kind Regards Lucy de Afonseca

What a way to see the island! Picked up from our apartment, Lucy our guide was an AMAZING lady who has passion for where she lives. She provided lots of laughs & interesting information throughout the tour. It’s a fantastic way to see a good variety of the scenery that Madeira has to offer, from its striking mountains to its breathtaking coastlines and waterfalls. We had plenty of opportunities to take photos and Lucy did an excellent job of giving us all the information we needed. She has excellent driving skills and lots of knowledge on all the mountain herbs and plants. Felt safe and had fun the whole time!!! A Tour much worth taking!

We did a total of three walks/tours with Secret Madeira. My wife did the Pico Do Ariero -- Pico Ruivo walk. As my knees don't agree with steep downhills, I did the west Madeira tour. Finally we went together with Tony walking the cliffside to Porto da Cruz, including a visit to the distillery. Lucy and Tony are wonderful people who will work hard to make sure your visit to Madeira is the best. They know the history and nature of the island and will point out and explain a ton of things you might not notice on your own. Highly recommended.
