The Gardens look like a peaceful place in the city, but with the Christmas decorations and music it seems even better. It is quite small but never seems crowded. Well worth a visit.

We thought these gardens beat the other paid ones "hands down". We started at the old stone bridge which in itself is a work of art. Then strolled the many paths that cross-crossed the gardens. This is a mature garden with plants of many varieties. We never knew it was there until late in the day so made a special trip back to see it and it was worth it.

I visited this small park during an nearly morning walk around Funchal on a cruise ship visit in December 2022. The last time I was there (2019) the park featured lots of festive decorations including a Santa's Grotto. I didn't see quite the same amount of decoration on this visit but there were lots of light displays all set up around the park for the evenings.

The municipal gardens are right in the centre of Funchal fairly close to the Cathedral, and features various sculptures, statues, a pretty duck pond with fountain and there is a café and toilets. Well worth some time to wander and enjoy the sights.

Friday 8th September we were sightseeing and exploring the sights of Funchal. We entered these small colourful gardens, in the heart of the City, from Avenida Arriaga. It is possible to enter the park on all it's sides.

A number of pathways criss-cross through the lawned Park, with something to see around every bend, including numerous coloured bushes, trees and shrubs.

At the time of our visit there was an artisan market, with a number of stalls lined up along the paths. The stalls we filled with art & handicrafts, jewellery, glass goods and so much more.

On the lawns, sometimes hidden by bushes and trees there are a number statues honouring famous people including, Simon Bolivar, Saint Francis of Assis, Joao dis Reis Gomes and others.
It was nice to walk through the Park, under the shade of the trees some respite from the sun. There were colourfully painted benches where visitors could sit, enjoy the shade and tranquility of the park.

At the far end if the Park there was a rather lively fountain pulsing water skywards.

We were fortunate to visit these gardens in May when many of the beautiful plants were in full bloom. Although a smaller area than some of the other Funchal gardens, there was still a great variety of plants on to see, including on the main road side the stunning Jacaranda trees with their purple flowers. On Friday there were also craft stalls selling jewellery and other handmade crafts, plus music in the auditorium area. Well worth a visit and surrounded by many cafes.

Take half hours to be there. This is one of the most beautiful urban gardens I've been to. If taking pictures gets boring, you can relax in the park's cafe. House wine is good! It is proven!

Nice little city park in the middle of the old town opposite the theatre (not to be confused with the Catharinenpark on the harbour next to the casino) with many special trees and flowers. There are also several statues, a fountain and a concert pavilion. Next to the pavilion there is a small garden cafe. In front of the park is the central taxi rank.

We wandered through here as we were exploring the area, and were completely blown away by these gardens. The plants were beautiful, the whole area was incredibly well looked after, and as an added bonus we watched lots and lots of small lizards basking and scurrying around. Really lovely and well worth a wander.

These are beautifully kept gardens on the outskirts of Funchal. There are lots of places to sit and relax and at the top of the gardens by the auditorium there is a little cafe.
The day I visited there were numerous little craft stalls which were nice to browse.

Not large but beautifully kept with huge range of plants in excellent condition with flower bed displays as well as seasonal planting and shaded with mature trees. Plenty of seating, an amphitheater with free performances and cafe. A real asset to be proud of and enjoyed.
