We visited this church on our way to the toboggan run and were pleasantly surprised. The church is beautifully decorated and has an interesting history.

Lovely old church with lots of history. A added royal connection with the tomb of an Austrian Emperor... a must see in Funchal

Take a buss or Cable car to Monte and visit this beautiful church. Place has a lot of stairs so be aware of that. We visited during christmas time and there was also many rooms decorated for christmas scene beside the church.

Monte, reached by bus or - more quickly and expensively - by cable car is famous for its Palace Gardens and its church of Our Lady of Monte, both 'musts' if you decide to go up there in the first place.
