My wife was so excited to see this unique garden, but unfortunately, when we arrived in Funchal, we found out that this family-run garden was destroyed by the fires in early August.

We were shown round the gardens by a very interesting lady who bviously has a great knowledge of the orchids etc. we spent a very pleasant hour or so looking round the gardens then sitting on a shady terrace eating cake and drinking coffee. Well worth a visit. We did it as part of a trip which included the gardens... More

This a garden for true plantsmen, not parks and gardens. The variety of orchids on display is endless and the knowledge freely passed on by the Staff, if you take the time to ask is priceless. The lady owner is lovely and willingly answers any questions you may have on the history of the house and gardens. As for the... More

I don't like big gardens designed for hundreds of tourists, too fancy and kind of...unpersonal. This garden is definitely not one of these. It's small, cozy, intense, kind of in process of repair (there were some storms), which makes it more....real, and unbelievably beautiful. You can feel the garden is cared for and loved.

Situated a short walk from the Botanical Gardens this is a 5th generation family committed to orchids and their preservation & cultivation . This is a large private garden and has no pretensions to being a huge commercial venture -- merely an admirable commitment to orchids Superb range of orchids in a natural habitat . Ideal for the keen gardener... More

We came across this small garden by chance on the long, steep climb to the botanical gardens. Don't come here expecting Kew Gardens. It is very small and reflects one man's passion for these beautiful and colourful plants. Around every corner or clinging to each tree is a different burst of colour with orchids of every size, shape and colour... More

Wonderful collection of orchids that would give Kew or Wisley a run for their money. Also available for sale, grown in sawdust so can be taken to UK. The greenhouses are tired but the variety and the knowledgeable staff are second to none.

We went up to here by tuk- tuk ,and was changed €5 each. We find this garden very run down. It needs more details of the plants with names etc. The building are very tried, looks like half of it is closed due to a fallen tree.

Dear Guest, Last week we had a horrible storm and a 400 year old tree fall on our greenhouses-we are trying our best to remove 7000kg of tree as quick as possible. We want to show our orchids in there natural surounding, therefore you want find any signs. And you can imagen if a wind with 120 km/h goes to... More
