This church was really beautiful. It was only slightly less impressive than the cathedral, although I see some people preferred it to the cathedral, it had more variety than the cathedral, with beautiful tile work and ceilings, large painted surfaces, some of which emulated the tile work and fine statuary and paintings. I did not expect to see such a beautiful and impressive church.

This big church is in the centre of Funchal and can not be missed. The interior is worth seeing. The inside is impressive and well done and worth spending a little time to view the ornate items.

This Jesuit church is very beautiful, even more so than the Cathedral which is only a short distance away. The whole church has spectacular decoration in gold leaf etc. Well worth visiting. The Sunday mass at noon is well atttended and beautifully sung.

This is a beautiful old church in Portugal. It’s very decorative inside. It’s full of gold artifacts and historical objects. Definitely worth seeing.

Beside old Jesuit College. Beautiful inside. Worth visiting and only E1 to go to the tower (terrace) for good photos of the square.

I do not generally visit churches being an aetheist but one cannot fail to be impressed with the spleandour and opulence of this structure. It is well worth a visit and one does feel humbled upon entry.

In Funchal down town sharing on of the square sides with the town hall on another side. The façade in Mannerist style contrast a lot with the exuberance in the interior. Fantastic gild carved wood altars, very good glaze tiles and quite interesting paintings. Enjoy!

Walking into this church there is a definite 'wow' factor. It is spectacularly ornate and, we thought, more impressive than Funchal cathedral. There were few tourists.
We paid 1 euro to go up the tower. This had a great view over Funchal and also had displays on the history and renovation of the church.

A truly beautiful cathedral, full of history. Our lady of Fatima statue was breathtaking. Very peaceful and cool on a hot day!

Some of the Churches in Funchal are closed for much longer than I've seen in other European centres; but when they *are* open, take the time to look in. This church is quite stunning - rather grander, in fact, than the Cathedral. Worth paying €1 each to climb the stairs to the roof; interesting views across the rooftops.

Glorious!
