Pickup in minibus from Riu Palace in Canico on time at 8.30 and driven to Funchal where others were picked up and driven to a carpark meeting point to transfer to another minibus and taken up the mountain to the start point for the walk. The walk finally began at 09.30 and ended at 12.00 when we were taken by... More

Alvaro was an excellent and highly entertaining guide on this pleasant easy walk. It was too bland for my husband but perfect for people who can't walk up hills but don't mind a bit of mud like me. We saw birds, trees and flowers and our guide was great at telling stories about the nature and Madeira life. The minibus... More

We hiked with Madeira Explorers to the highest peaks of the island: Pico do Areeiro - Pico Ruivo; walk ended in Achada de Teixeira. We were collected from Canico and Funchal by bus and had time before the hike in Poiso to have coffee. There were 14 participants that is good size of the group. The guide was very informative,... We have done guided walks with this company on previous years and as usual they were excellent. The walk was 12km mainly uphill but with some level sections on Lavadas and took about 5 hours raising up to about 1600ft. The path takes you through paths amongst gorse bushes at the later stages and long trousers are highly recommended (I... More

A lovely half day levada walk- easy as only five and a half k but with stunning views of the valleys, the coast and the Eagle Rock. The vegetation was beautiful- such a treat to see flowers in January! Our guide, Amilcar, was really knowledgeable and had a wicked sense of humour. Trip ended at really quaint bar where we... More

We booked through TUI and took the Serra Agua walk on Boxing Day. This particular walk is approx 5.5km but only climbs 80m throughout the length due to the way the levadas wind around the hillside. We loved this walk, our guide Alvo was very knowledgeable of the flora and fauna and showed us a different side of life in... More

If you suffer with claustrophobic problems don't go on these walks what they don't tell you is that there are many tunnels . The one we were told about as we were half way down the mountain was 1 Kilometre long (half a mile) about six foot wide and under six foot high. having told them I was claustrophobic We... More

I decided to try out a couple of the 'easier' walks as, even though I have visited Madeira four times, I had never done any of the Levada walks before and didn't know what to expect. I was not disappointed. I was picked up in my hotel reception both times and we drove to the start of the walks. Both... More

This is a professional outfit in every way. I have vertigo so discussed with their office whether I would have a problem. Lady said it depends because although the walk does have drops to one side, there is vegetation and some rope fences to help. In fact it was for me no problem at all - and in the past... More

Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful walk. There are things to see but not as much as I have been led to believe. The engineering feat itself is to be applauded. Walking through the driving rain all wet and soggy and looking at more water, probably does not help. I would recommend that you have comfortable sturdy shoes... More
