Open to the public since 1991, the Monte Palace Tropical Garden occupies an area of 70.000 square meters and houses a huge exotic plant's collection, coming from all over the world, together with swans, duck's and Koi fish. The Monte Palace Museum is an ideal exhibition space nestled within the beautiful surroundings of a tropical garden. There are three floors, two of which are dedicated to sculptures and the third houses a unique mineral collection gathered from the four corners of the world. Monte Palace, also includes one of the most important tile collections in Portugal. The tiles exhibited amidst the tropical vegetation represent several ages, coming from palaces, churches, chapels and private houses throughout the former Portuguese empire. We are open everyday except 25th of December. Our prices are: Adults - 10€ Children younger than 15 years old: Free Entrance as long as they are accompanied by adults. Beautifully laid out gardens with sections for different species. The Japanese gardens with fish ponds are particularly attractive. It is a place where you could spend hours wandering around or just sitting watching the world go by down by the lake. The cafe for snacks or lunch is in a secluded corner.

11th of January 2017 is a day that will stay with me forever such a beautiful place. We got the cable cars up had a look round had a spot of lunch then had a wonder through the gardens, following the map with interesting things to see going through the numbers. We made our way back up through the trees... More

Well worth a visit, most beautiful gardens to walk around. Especially liked the wall tiles explaining the history as you walk around. Do allow some time as there is a big area to walk, do take a map. Lots of quiet places to sit and enjoy surroundings. We stopped at a little cafe for a drink. Thoroughly enjoyed and look... More

Fascinating place. Full of oddities, follies and a web of paths and walks. Paths can be steep, but they have introduced a wee golf buggy route for those who may need it.

We arrived here by cable cars. Harbour was cloudy, but hills up here were sunny and warm. Park offers a lot to see. It includes few intresting museums which are included to ticket. You can easily spend whole afternoon here without regrets! Notice that this park is built on a hillside, which can make it rough to move around in... More

This is a garden over many different levels cascading down a hill. It is steep. The water features are lovely and we particularly enjoyed the orchids in boom. Altogether we spent two relaxing hours here with a sense that this garden is very professionally managed to a high standard.

We especially enjoyed the range and variety of planting, the orchids in flower and interesting hard landscaping. Only the catering was somewhat disappointing due to the limited range of lunchtime snacks on offer. We did like the free wine, however.

These gardens are absolutely beautiful. We got a combination ticket which also included the cable car, so the price was reasonable. There are a few exhibitions around which are interesting. The gardens themselves are extremely pretty and different all the way through. Some amazing views too. The only thing I would mention is that there are a lot of hills... More
