Open to the public since 1991, the Monte Palace Tropical Garden occupies an area of 70.000 square meters and houses a huge exotic plant's collection, coming from all over the world, together with swans, duck's and Koi fish. The Monte Palace Museum is an ideal exhibition space nestled within the beautiful surroundings of a tropical garden. There are three floors, two of which are dedicated to sculptures and the third houses a unique mineral collection gathered from the four corners of the world. Monte Palace, also includes one of the most important tile collections in Portugal. The tiles exhibited amidst the tropical vegetation represent several ages, coming from palaces, churches, chapels and private houses throughout the former Portuguese empire. We are open everyday except 25th of December. Our prices are: Adults - 10€ Children younger than 15 years old: Free Entrance as long as they are accompanied by adults. Beautiful gardens, well worth the entrance fee. Spent a good few hours wandering about enjoying the botanical gardens and statues. Very chilled and serene.

I went to the botanical gardens with my granddad andaunti while the ret of family went somewhere ele. This experience is for people that have a interest in gardens and the outdoors. The gardens are beautiful . You do have to pay to enter the gardens ,I think the price is quite reasonable if you are in a small group.

These gardens are beautiful and interesting with some interesting bits of history and some unusual African art displays. There are some very steep paths and uneven paths, lots of interesting plants and water features with some huge Koi carp. I loved the various statues and the Japanese gardens. If you intend to do the ride down on the baskets after... More

When you come off the cable car, you can see the entrance to the garden and one you're inside, you'll be hard pressed to choose the best way to go about your visit. It is quite big to see everything, so you should probably choose between one of the recommended routes and don't forget to just go off-route whenever you... More

Visited the gardens this week after ascending in the cable cars. Be warned - this place is literally on the side of a steep hill and the entrance is at the top, so what goes down.... The gardens are amazing, with the two oriental gardens connected by other formal and not so formal areas. There are three different routes marked... More

Large, tropical gardens (very warm work) located on a hillside. Very nice with plenty of different and varied things to see. Give yourself an hour or two or three in order to see all at a relaxed pace.

Stunning, left us speechless. How did they create this sumptuous haven in a cleft in the rock? It seems an impossible wonderland. Go up in the cable car and walk down through the gardens, then slowly work your way back to the top, reading the tile panels of Portuguese history. There's a golf cart that can give you a lift... A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon, The museums are really galleries with not much information. I was surprised at the lack of local bird life leaving the experience a bit sterile. This is a very steep garden so not suitable for less able people. thankfully there is a caddy service to take you back to the entrance for... More
