It’s worth the 4 EUR/person as it keeps you busy for about 20-25 minutes. But the poor animals in the fish tanks breaks ones heart, the habitat is not even close to natural. No plants in the tanks whatsoever and there’s a lot of fish...More

We had an excellent time here. It's a natural history museum with an emphasis on sea life. Lots of stuffed fish and sharks, most of them created by the renowned taxidermist 'Jerry' Maul. On the ground floor there's a set of about 15 fish tanks...More

I was more interested in the aquarium than the tired collection of stuffed and model animals on the second floor. I reckon that 4 out of the 13 tanks are empty. In one tank in the corner is a foot long grouper who has a tank...More

For 3.91 euros each this museum was a disappointment in terms of content. Some exhibits were good but a lot of rooms were shut off and the whole experience was underwhelming. The aquarium at the bottom was nice but small and morning to brag about....More

Lovely building, outdated and uninspiring museum. Looks like museums used to be when they were private collections and not attractions. Save yourself 3 euros and just look in a fishmongers window for more interesting specimens in better displays.

Beautiful looking building and we popped in out of curiosity. Cost just over €3 each. Small aquarium on ground floor with sea life from around the island-the eels were cool. The upper floors had very very old preserved specimens of whales, dolphins and seals, along...More

There was more to see than we expected. All the exhibits were clearly labelled and well looked after. Although the aquarium was small it was good to experience. Entrance charge was very reasonable and well worth paying.

This is a small museum that also includes a modest aquarium. If the weather is ordinary outside, which it was, and you are quite near the centre of Funchal, it is worth a visit. The building itself is interesting. Also, you have to be quite...More
