Just walking along I found this pretty ;little garden, complete with exotic trees a fountain pond and just a pleasant shady walk away from the bustle of the main stream street a few yards away. Worth a look and a stroll.

Places where you could sit around the park. There were two swans in the pond area with two cygnets and they were lovely to watch swimming around. Very peaceful area

It's a very beautiful garden and very well cared. Recommend a visit at least once while you're in Funchal.

The Sao Francisco gardens outside have a café bar which is open late, serving coffee, alcohol and food. They have excellent Portuguese custards and on a hot day the trees provide a welcome shady area. Alternatively the Ritz is the other side of the gardens and plenty of bars a short walk away.

Whilst by day, this can be a garden refuge, it does get busy unlike most of the other public gardens. It is central, has some old trees but one lady who was staying nearby said it is full of drunks at night. It is decorated from 8 Dec for Xmas.

Just the place to stop by for some lunch or a sit down. Plenty of shade if it's too sunny or find a sunny seat if you want to warm up.

When I first walked past this park I didn't even realise it was there, until I saw the trees and green spaces and was intrigued. It is a miniature burst of greenery. There is also a pond with large carp who greet you. All the main plants associated with Madeira are present: bird of paradise, bottle brush, the depressed trumpets... More

This little oasis in the middle of town is a good place to sit and relax. If you've walked around the shops or the sites of Funchal it's an ideal place to rest your legs and take in some greenery. There is a small outdoor theatre and a duck pond too. If you're on a budget or you are visiting... More

These pretty city gardens are beautifully maintained, very neat and tidy and an oasis of calm in the middle of the city. When we visited, the park was decorated for Christmas and looked very attractive.

These gardens are privately owned, and belong to a hotel. You are welcome to visit. They are well maintained with good views over Funchal. There is no fee to enter. The terrain is not suitable for push chairs or people with walking problems.
