Very impressive for a hidden away church. Our guide had the inside knowledge to find this gem of a church. Cobble stones, so be careful.

Worth a look. Not as big or grand as some Cathedrals in Italy but the town is not as big. It usually closes at 12am and does not open till late afternoon. We tried a few days but could not get there in time but did manage too on last day.

We had an opportunity to enter the Cathedral but could only manage a brief 5 minutes or so before being shown the door to exit, presumably for a midday mass. On subsequent trips into Funchal the Cathedral was never open to visitors so cannot give much more of an opinion!

You need to be careful when you visit as I think the cathedral is shut in the afternoon and you can't visit when there is a service going on. Interesting cathedral

It was closed so i can't say too much about it. The architecture is nice and nearby there are other good places to see.

Lovely little church. Wait until you see the inside for yourself. I like the smaller cathedrals more than the larger ones, they are always a wonderful surprise. Take the time to see this one.

Our arrival was not timed well as the cathedral is closed for 1 hour to visitors. We were able to have long enough there to see how beautiful it was inside and hope to see more on our next visit.

Right in centre of Funchal this cathedral is beautiful inside. Well looked after and very much a working cathedral rather than a tourist attraction. Nice place just to walk, sit, and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Beautiful cathedral. Portuguese churches always have an interesting mix of intricate wood, stone and tile work, and of course a lot of gilded artworks.
