Situated on a busy main road, you can pop into this winery and taste an assortment of the Madeira wine they make on site. This ranges from the smooth year old young blend to the 30 year old complex liquor that knocks your socks off. Make sure you’ve eaten before you visit. It doesn’t cost much to try the wines and they aren’t stingy when they pour. You can buy bottles of your favourite blend in the shop.…

Unfortunately we couldn't do the tour as they were fully booked. We were seated and given a list of the different wines available and the cost per glass. Unlike other wine tastings, you pay per glass. We explained to the lady the type of wine we were looking for and she fetched us a couple to try after explaining the differences between them. We sampled a 15 year old Bual and a 20 year old Malvasia. DH preferred the Bual whereas I preferred the Malvasia, and seeing as I drink it more than DH we got the Malvasia, although the lady thought we would choose the Bual. When we paid the lady very kindly didn't charge us for the samples we had had, despite us being more than happy to pay for them. Bottle was well packed in a very solid box which meant we got it home in one piece packed into the middle of our suitcase. Would certainly go back and hopefully do the tour and next time DH will be buying the Bual!!! A definite treat to enjoy at home while reminiscing over Funchal :) Forget the rest, with their free samples. Visit HM Borges.…

We wanted to visit a different Madeira wine House whilst in Funchal (we'd been on a tour at Blandys in the past)...drove past here on a previous day and noted the sign saying "Tasting & Tours". Looked at the website to pre book...website not functioning but hey we're on hols so we'll just rock up....which we did. Totally ignored by the staff at the counter, place apart from them & us empty, no signs up for Tours & Tastings...stood for a good 5/10 mins and no one approached us or spoke. We left and went elsewhere...their loss our gain.…

Went to Blandy’s, Oliveira’s and here and this was my favourite. Although there was no tour and you paid for each glass tasted, the servings were generous and the place is still producing on site. The woman serving was very knowledgable and helpful. We were only charged for the most expensive glass in the end. The room was beautiful. Pleased to buy from here and recommend the Bual 2005. …
