In the 💓 of Funchal hundreds of vintage cameras, binoculars, telescopes, all from private collection... a must-visit for everyone interested in photography and film. The exhibition area is spread over two floors, and a coffee/foyer/small antique shop. Upstairs you get to watch a melange of private video clips depicting Madeira from '50s onwards. Just brill!

I only wish the ever-growing collection gets all support from local authorities as it is obvious the museum is in need of constant maintenance and expansion! Madeira should be proud to have such a gem of the place! It's places like this museum that make all the difference for a tourist hungry for cultural food!

Really nice and big collection of cameras, optics and other stuff. The owner was a really nice guy and my girlfriend purchased a nice camera from him. He even fixed some minor things first and checked if it worked as well. Really a big heart for the business

This museum is well worth a visit. It has a large display of cameras, film projectors, telescopes and all things optical. My husband had a great time rediscovering equipment he used to work with.
Upstairs they have films running showing some of the history of Maderia which is well worth a watch.
The owner was really helpful. Looking up information for us on the old funicular railway, it's running and demise.
Do visit this one.it is worth seeking out

The museum was recommended by a friend in Madeira and proved to be a pleasant and interesting place to spend some time. Some of the exhibits evoke childhood memories, others show some of the outstanding cameras and optical devices from a bygone age. We particularly liked the opera glasses. It's a small museum but with enough exhibits and information to keep you occupied.

Thank you! It's true, this museum appears small from the outside, but I'm sure it changes people's minds when they get in! Also, we are working on future expansions of the museum area. Thank you once more for your kind words!

Amazing displays and collections of various optical equipment! Tons of nostalgic pieces that brought me back to my childhood. The museum was easy to navigate and provided great information. I look forward to going back!

Much more then at first you might think. Nice collection of cameras, telescopes, movie projectors and various other optical gear. The owner is friendly, interesting and a wealth of information. The high point for my wife and I was the movies. The black and white movies of Madeira many years ago show another era and bygone traditions and apparel. And the new color movies taken from drones offer a Birdseye view of spectacular mountainous island areas.

This was a really interesting little museum that we only discovered by chance when we searched the leaflets at the tourist office in Funchal.

It consists of an array of old cameras, binoculars, telescopes and other optical instruments, very well displayed with clear labelling and information. There is also a little vintage shop!with cameras, postcards, records, silver etc for sake.

Quite an amazing place...started by the "sorting" of his fathers garage/shed and now being added to (we understand by donation). So wonderful to see all of these items on display..incredible and somewhere that the 5Euro entrance fee was worth it.

We found this new museum by accident on one of our wanders but didn’t have time to go in until the following week. Brought back happy memories for hubby on his youth spent in darkrooms and finding a lot of the old cameras he owned on show. A very well set out museum with both English and Portuguese signs in each cabinet. The large wooden telescope upstairs is something to behold. Coffee and cake were a treat once we’d spent almost a couple of hours there. Be lovely to see what else has been added when we return next year. Sergio is so enthusiastic about the whole enterprise that it deserves to grow. Well worth the visit, even if you’re not a camera expert as there’s plenty to see.
