What a wonderful original natural quaint and traditional biscuit shop that makes original Madeira Cake (not as we, the foreigners, know it). Our walking tour guide took us to this gem of a place to taste what traditional biscuits (made from sugar cane, and lovely various spices) are like. Paula gave us an amazing array of biscuits to taste that dazzled our taste buds giving us a 'feel good factor'. My partner's favourite are hazelnut biscuits whilst I chose cinnamon and molasses for my sophisticated palette ;)
1 piece of advise, do not ask Paula for a discount or to even round up the total! She is totally professional who does not believe the word 'discount' exists!!

The shop was stunning, worth a visit just to have a look.

But the staff are great, we had our two children with us (4&7) and she got out a selection of biscuits and let them try them all. They were very generous, very knowledgeable and when wrapping everything up took great care with it all.

Would definitely recommend a visit to pick up your Madeira cake.

Came across this little gem by accident after visiting the very overhyped market nearby and this was an altogether better experience.
The very helpful staff let us taste lots of different and delicious biscuits and the cake - which in fairness looked lovely but is not to my taste.
We bought some of the delicious biscuits, marmalade and an anise liquer all of which were exceptionally reasonably priced and they wrapped them very carefully for us for travel.

Our trip to Madeira was wonderful, and nicely complemented by a trip to Fabrica Santo Antonio - a shop full of delicious, artisanal cookies made fresh daily. Paula was very knowledgeable and generous in letting us sample the freshly baked cookies from the factory behind the shop. The shop prides in its 127-year traditional recipes, namely the ginger cookies, Bolo de Mel and Sugarcane Honey cookies. Please make time to take a peak and bring some delicious cookies home!

Don't walk past this store... go inside for excellent service, travel back in time, taste testers, authenticity and great presents!
I came out with affordable Madeira cakes as presents to take home (wish I'd bought more!) and delicious ginger candies. Yum yummy.

A lovely, old fashioned shop in the same building as the original factory which dates back to 1893. The cookies are out of this world, we bought chocolate & coffee, ginger and sugar cane, hazelnut and two types of almond ones - most for gifts, some for ourselves. Back home we are finding them so delicious with our morning cup of coffee we are now eyeing the ones we bought as gifts … They also sell cake and jams. The shop is on the corner of Travessa do Forno and Rua 5 de Outubro (one road up from Rua do Bettencourt).

Delicious Madeiran biscuit and cake shop- perfect for presents to take home
Desperate to find something light and small to take home as presents we were directed towards this small shop where biscuits and cakes are on sale direct from the factory presided over by extremely helpful English speaking staff.

Forget about buying any biscuits anywhere else in Funchal except here. They really are sooo good you'll want to just stay and eat them until you pop...

Beautiful artisan biscuit and cake makers and sellers. As she said, the assistant loved her job and helped with purchases we wanted to make. Very generous samples to taste. All well presented. Miles ahead of a gift shop. Keep it up!

A dazzling array of local biscuits, jams and other sweets. The staff where eager to help and could speak multiple languages, making it easy to try things out and ask questions.
