Big disappointment.
This small village with rebuilt "traditional" houses was part of our "Madeira East" group tour.
It reminds me of a kind of artificial mini-amusement attraction for children. Not interesting at all for adults, not historic, just "kitsch" to attract tourists. (At least free entry). In the triangular houses plenty of awful and overpriced souvenirs are sold.
Not worth to visit.
And the village of Santana is not nice/interesting at all!!
Small, dirty .... with some shabby joints, "feeding places" where tourist groups end up with their guide to have a terrible lunch 🤮

Avoid this flower shop by all means. They sell seeds but when you open the package at home, it is full of dead leaves (instead of seeds).
Not worth the visit, it is a real tourist trap!
We bought 3 packages of Massaroco (pride of Madeira) seeds. They were packed in a plastic bag and hidden (by them) in paper. We paid 15 euros for all 3. Looks like buying a cat in a bag...

Nice place! If you are planing to visit Madeira, I definitely recommend you to visit it. You can see the typical farmers houses, there is also a cafe in the complex, a small lake, a kids playground and a zoo.

Horrendous tourist trap, do not bother. so many coaches all queuing to look at some small houses which are just gift shops, tourist office, drinks shop etc...nothing to see inside the actual houses, no recreation of history. Just busloads of tourists and the odd smattering of people getting photos for their instagram....

Absolutely chucked it down whilst it was dry in Funchal. Be aware the weather on the north coast is so different to the south. The houses themselves look great and we drove round the village and found few more examples. Had a great lunch at Peters on the way

Clean village
It meets these expectations! No need to pay to enter!! But each activity costs money and is not necessarily worth it (paying to see goats) toilets are also paid but clean!
The houses are representative of the period, nice if you pass by but not worth a detour
In September the village died

Super nice park to visit with kids (3-12) and learn more about the island. The park is made with love and a lot of attention was paid to tell the visitors about Madeira. History, crafts, plants, tourist attractions - everything is covered in the exposition. Good to visit during rain )) thank you, we really enjoyed 🍀

Oversold attraction, a stage city. If you want to see these triangular houses, it is enough to see them in your guidebook. They are not worth the trip as they are just souvenir shops and it is difficult to get pictures without other tourists. You don't get any sense of how the houses have been inhabited. The town itself is a tame affair with plain cafes and boring houses. A little outside the center next to a hotel, there is however one house where they have furnished it in the old style. But still - not worth the trip.

Some pretty traditional thatched cottages built as a tourist attraction. There is little else to see here. In total it’s a 20 min stop… and that includes a coffee and a cake. It should not be an extended visit so check your tour details before coming. We had 2 hours here (yawn)

Depite being winter the weather was good - occasional rain. Lovely views, interesting place to visit. Would recommend the Botanical Garden and a whale watching trip, even in winter. The market in Funchal is a must visit - go on a Saturday. Only caution - some things have shut down because of COVID, for example the village where they used to do the weaving, so check to make sure you are not disappointed.
