Camara de Lobos is a small fishing town 6 miles from Funchal town. It is quite enchanting in the surface, with small side streets and lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from. There is a small cove/ pebbled beach area which is mainly occupied by local fishing boats. It is nice on a sunny day, but can be windy and bleak on a bad day. There isn’t that much to do in the town once you’ve looked around, although there are a couple of nice bakeries. One thing to be wary of in this small town are a couple of cafe/ restaurants that will rip you off. One in particular is the Sunny Bar cafe which I would advise anyone to avoid at all costs, even if you’re desperate.

The raised walkway from Camara de Lobos to the Monumental Lido area is now fully open, although work is being done to reinforce some of the walkway pillars. There is now a new concrete path along the full length of Praia Formosa, and the caves tunnel is open. So it is possible to walk all the way from Funchal to Camara de Lobos on footpaths and promenade. Updates are needed whenever work is being undertaken, please.

We started at the lido and walked the coastal path, small diversion as the tunnel was closed. Lovely views, I would class the walk as moderate, as there are some fairly hefty climbs. Camara itself is touristy but there are some good things to be found with a bit of exploring. Walk back was a bit harder after food and drink!

SUNNY and Enjoyably
It is the next town located on the west side from Funchal. Very charming with lots of good restaurants. Feels like it is growing and has great potential. Some very unique and nice looking buildings are abandoned, perhaps after COVID crisis. The town has so much potential.
It was full of expats and foreign couples.
If you stay in Madeira for longer, I think this is a nice place if you don’t want to be in Funchal.

We started our walk from the public parking lot in Camara de Lobos. It's a short uphill stretch to reach the promenade. This is a lovely walk along the sea with great views. Before a storm ripped out the boardwalk closer to Funchal, it joined the Lido boardwalk and you could walk all the way to Funchal. There are no washrooms on the promenade.

Nice village, nice views, fishermans playing cards (as they are not allowed to catch fishes now). Worth to stop for 1 hour and walk around.

The most magical place on the island. Absolutely beautiful little streets and craft ship. Lots to see and do. Generally a beautiful little town.

Great views and excellent fish lunch. We visited as part of a private Madeira tour and we are glad the guide/driver took us here.

Tourist trap Cafe... avoid Sunny Bar where the service is anything but sunny, the food rubbish and the whole experience just blurghhh. And super expensive too.

but the stretch near Camara de Lobos is best because it is a walk by the sea all the way and no traffic fumes! Great views and sun often shining. Lovely breezes and you can paddle on the Praia Formosa.

Vielen Dank.
